Qwalk just explained the roughing the passer call last night

He said the rule says the passer is basically protected, even if it is a running back...Well, I will go back to the Play where the Pittsburgh Qb faked sliding and then kept running...That rule will be changed. But, if the rule as Qwalk explained it stands, then why wouldn't a team with a 3rd and long toss it to a running back, and have him toss a pass right before being tackled to draw a fifteen yarder. There are coaches that will resort to that...

Even if that was the QB, how was the roughing?

He did not hit him late and was jumping to try and bat the ball down.

Today's football isn't your football of 20+ years ago. It will resemble basketball more and more as time goes by.

They’ve actually allowed basketball to get rougher. It used to be a game of finesse. Now they allow all sorts of contact and carrying the ball.

That might be, but it should not have been called. It was a trash call.

How is it roughing the passer when the ball is tipped by the tackler? Explain that.

How do you figure when a defender jumps to tip a ball, and tips the ball as gravity pulls him down on top of the QB bc of the tip attempt. Rule needs to be changed…. If you tip the ball any qb contact on the way down should be irrelevant. That’s not roughing the passer I’m sorry.

Find the rule where a tipped ball nullifies roughing the passer. Let me know when you find it.

It’s a dumb rule, roughing the passer is hitting a qb well after a throw. That was a bang bang play. Way to quick to be a late hit/ “roughing” the passer.

You don’t hit the rb in the head whether he’s running or passing

So not sure how you think the coaches are going to do something to take advantage. This isn’t a new rule. It’s obvious some of you don’t watch the NFL at all. Any blow to the passer above the shoulders or below the knee is a penalty. A passer is a passer had nothing to do with being qb. While it wasn’t a hard blow and unintentional, it’s still the right call by rule.
