Quick glance at non-starter productivity for both teams

Non-starter productive participation - I asked this question a while back and never got a good answer, so I crunched some numbers myself to satisfy my curiosity. As, I suspected, even though LSU was demolishing their opponents, they didn't get nearly as much experience and depth with their back-ups.
QB
CU 100 (21.2%) Pass attempts by players other than Lawrence (5 players, 3 QB, 2 trick plays)
LSU 40 (7.7%) by one player
RB
CU 353 (65.6%) rushes by 15 players not Etienne or Lawrence (who rushed 8 less times than Burrow). As a total unit they averaged 6.4 YPC
LSU 181 (37.6%) rushes by 6 players not Edwards-Helaire or Burrow. As a unit they averaged 4.9 YPC
Receiving (Top 3 WR, 1 TE, 1 RB counted as Starters)
CU 118 (38.3%) receptions by 16 non-starters. 13.3 YPC as a total unit
LSU 83 (21.0%) receptions by 15 non-starters. 14.1 YPC as a total unit
Kicking
CU 6 XPA (7.2%), 2 (9.1%) FG by Sawicki
LSU none (0.0%) by a backup
Defense (total tackle by non-starters based off of depth chart for game)
CU 349 (39.1%) tackles by non-starters
LSU 288 (33.1%) tackles by non-starters

Our non starters wont play that much as those stats suggest. Weak ACC competition and we just had no need. The numbers vs Ohio State should be a better representation of what will happen.

One point to take away from these stats, though

Is that the overall numbers (total offense and total defense) aren't truly representative of our teams' capabilities. LSU has kept their starters in much longer, making their offensive and defensive numbers look much more impressive. Also, there will be more drop-off when they do need to substitute. Most importantly, though, we will be built for the future. Next year's starters will have much more valuable experience and confidence. And back-ups practice harder because they know they'll actually see meaningful action.
Higgins and Ross were out for quite a few snaps during the OSU game. And Pinckney may be out versus LSU. You never know when you'll need a back-up.

Bingo. That is a big part of our success. Good stats. Thanks.

I see you fired up the negativity train a few days ago and it still hasn’t run out of gas. Just so we’re all clear, how did you bet on this game?

Didn't 5 different DE's play against OSU and multiple DB's and LB's? Our Backups get a lot of time during the real games not just in blowouts that when they are needed during the big games they have virtually no dropoff in production. I think we even played like 9 receivers during the OSU game. Of course some because of injuries to Tee and Justyn but Trevor was still able to take advantage of the DB's when the backups were in.

Good points! Thanks for crunching the nos.
I am worried about T and Ross. I hope they look very different than vs. OSU.

Tee came back and made a nice leaping two point catch against OSU.

I really hate Bill Belicheat and the Patriots, but one thing they have done is something that I think is brilliant and applies here.
The Patriots have eschewed a lot of high priced stars in favor of a better quality of players over all in their 53 member rosters. They understand that starters need rest or get hurt and they have methodically built their roster to minimize the talent drop off between 1st team and 2nd team players. When they have to sub, their team quality does not suffer as much as another teams does.
Clemson has developed their team similarly. If someone goes down (or needs a blow), we do not have the quality drop off that other teams do. When Trevor went down, I swear the first words out of my mouth were, "C'mon Chase!" I still figured we would find a way to get it done with CB.
Sometime tonight, one (or more) of our non-starters is going to make a critical play for the TEAM. And that kind of stuff really doesn't show up in stats.
