Questions about scholarship numbers.

Dec 16, 2021, 10:56 AM

How many open football scholarship spots do we still have available?

If we only sign a couple more before February, would we be able to pocket the remaining scholarships and use them in next years recruiting class? If so, seems like that could end up being a super sized class.

If that’s an option, I hope we don’t just offer guys to get bodies in here before February. Id rather struggle next year with who we’ve got and then go after as much elite talent as possible as opposed to sending out offers between now and signing day on guys that we normally would not have pursued, otherwise.

25 per year is the max unless they changed it.

there's ways to count guys forward or back with regard to

the 25. Without considering guys who are current RS SO, JRs that may want to use the +1 Covid year, transfers, early entry to NFL. We probably would be looking at how many we leave open +14 or so. Let's say we leave 7 open. Our # would be around 21 probably for next year. Hard to predict any of the otehr stuff but the Coaches will have conversations and try best they can. They are going to have at least 4 more that leave, probably closer to 10 but then they may have 3-4 that use an extra Covid year so you're probably looking at high 20's but hard for the coaches to say the # is higher than 21 until some of that plays out. My guess is we try to bring in around 25 but I wish we would go for 30 as we know that # is going to be off. We have plenty of room to count back to this year which would apply to any 5 guys who enrolled in January next year - not an issue on that front at all.

still some moving parts but we're around 75 heading toward

2nd signing day with no more hitting the portal - That's enough(if we don't have injuries like this year that take out whole positions) - we'll save the rest(after hopefully picking up a handful 2nd signing period) and offer a lot more for 2023. There are also some PWO in this class so a couple of those may earn one sooner vs later. It is really hard to figure because of the COVID year how things will line up and what you plan for moving forward the next few years. Take a guy like Capehart, he will be in his 3rd year at CU next year but if he doesn't play in the bowl game then he will still have 4 years left if he wants them - but would he do that? he wouldn't even know the answer to that today much less the coaches. That question happens for every kid that was on the roster for 2020 so until all those guys cycle through, it's really a mess. It was stupid by the NCAA to award the extra year once everyone competed and we had a playoff, etc.
