Question to those wanting expanded playoffs

Jan 8, 2014, 4:41 PM

It will probably be hard for many fans to get to a playoff game on top of the NC game starting this year. But if there are even more games in some different and far away places, it will probably be nearly impossible for almost everyone to get to each one them.

This means playoffs will be less attended by hard core fans and maybe take away the small edge for the players since crowds can really motivate at times. I'm thinking about how announcers kept commenting that Auburn fans were loud and how there "might" be getting to Winston when down closer to them and scoping out long yards to the end zone.

Or couldn't it give an edge to big schools with big fan bases who might be able to pack a stadium better?

The semi-final will probably be the only game

regular fans can attend...the CG will probably be like the Super Bowl with tix prices in the $1000's.

I'm ok with it being 4. At least until some 5th or 6th

ranked team actually proves they deserve some legitimate shot at playing for the national title. I can't think of one off the top of my head in recent memory.

That with the very strong chance playoffs games aren't going to ever be played for a long time until late December....real long season for students.

And I just hope I have that problem to deal with***

Good point. A lot of if's.

Who knows which round might be easier to get to. We could be playing a first round against an SEC team for example. And that year maybe the Fiesta Bowl is hosting the championship, so a lot of people might choose to go to playoff and pass on the cost of going to AZ, for example.

Assuming all playoff teams would go to a bowl anyway,

even in a 16 team playoff, only 8 teams would have one extra game (above what they have now), only 4 would have two extra games, and only 2 teams would have three extra games.

Yes, there would be some things that would work against certain teams, and some things that some people would not like, but I think it would all be worth it if it meant the champion was decided almost entirely on the field with biased poll voters having much less impact, and schools like UCF and Oklahoma this year getting the same consideration as Alabama and Stanford.
