Question for those with more NFL knowledge

Mar 13, 2015, 4:59 PM

What is Spiller looking at with his move to the Saints as far as production?

I know they're obviously light years ahead of Buffalo in the QB category, yet what about the O line, offensive scheme, how they use their RBs, etc. Haven't kept up with the Saints much and hoping the Tnet experts out there could help fill me in.

He'll be splitting time with Mark Ingram. Most Saints fans see him filling the role left by Pierre Thomas.

That could be a good strategy if the Saints play it right- split carries with Ingram and have fresh legs on the field throughout the game

Spread the field

Giving him more chances to be isolated - where he can make a move and run in space.
DB can throw it downfield which will open things for running lanes.
We will see what CJ still has in the tank.
I hate the saints, guess I have to like them a little now.

Nice! Always felt Spiller did his best work out in space. Could definitely work in his advantage.

Payton wants another Sproles

Mar 13, 2015, 5:23 PM

Saints have missed that type of back since Sproles left....the multi purpose, change of pace, explosive back that catches the ball in space and is hell in the open field. CJ fits that perfectly.

Agreed- an explosive back is what the Saints just got. Man I'm hoping the supporting cast can do their work and Spiller can blow up. Dude is way overdue. We all know what he's capable of.

The Saints like to utilize their RB's

Mar 13, 2015, 8:03 PM

They typically give carries to each of their RBs in their 3-deep rotation. They realeased veteran RB Pierre Thomas, but resigned starter Mark Ingram. Spiller will be a change-of-pace back in New Orleans and a 2nd teamer, despite CJ's contract being higher than starter Mark Ingram.

This doesn't mean CJ won't get carries though. Last year, Thomas got 10ish carries per game, and CJ should expect the same. Where CJ will really benefit though, is New Orleans gameplan to heavily involve their RBs in the passing game. He's essentially filling the void that Darren Sproles left when he went to Philly. Sproles was heavily utilized in the passing game in New Orleans, and that's something CJ should expect to contribute heavily toward.
