Question for the Xs and Os people: Why did our defense

have so much trouble with the option yesterday, when they were so great against it vs Georgia Tech? They obviously know how to play the option, was it simply a matter of not being in the frame of mind going into the game of thinking they were going to be dealing with that?

You try to read the option. Option defense is simple, you just have to play assignment football.

1. They seemingly didn't get it drilled into their heads quite as forcefully by the coaches.
2. They're a naturally aggressive group, and it is tough to fight natural tendencies. Gap integrity - being where you're supposed to be - is a huge part of successfully defending the option.
3. SU used multiple sets, formations, and looks to keep our guys guessing.

With Boulware it's all or nothing. Unfortunately it has been a lot of nothing recently. He had only 4 tackles yesterday.

Cuse was basically running two running plays and we had zero gap discipline and we weren't reading our keys.
