I'm just out of the screen at the 16 second mark, and had a perfect angle (receiver coming at me). He never had possession, and 40 years later, I'm still ticked off.

I was in the stands using same curse words as Ford. The Official had his mind made up before the play began.
ACC has always been anti Clemson!

and I was at the game.
Not only was that NOT a catch, two players on the Maryland offensive line moved prior to the snap, something the officiating crew also conveniently overlooked.

I was at that game. Not only was it not a catch, there was a false start and the play clock had expired. Worst officiating I have ever seen.

The call was so bad I still remember where I was when I watched it. I had to work that day and was watching as best I could. It was not a catch then nor would it be now. Danny had every right to be pissed.

I was there but sitting at the other end of the stadium and could not see the play well when it happened. Just remember cheering Danny as he chewed on the refs.

Not a catch. ACC sucked then, and ACC sucks now. The officials never miss a chance to screw Clemson, and that’s been happening for 60+ years.

The next year because of his actions (certainly justified) at that call. In fact I recall Ross had to sit in the booth as well.

I was at the game and was absolutely bewildered but figured I may have missed something from my upper deck seat. Happened to record game and as soon as I got home to watch it, was beyond furious because, already stated by another poster, there was movement before the snap and the snap clock went to zero and that was absolutely not a catch.

No catch. Ford was banned from the sideline the following year against the Twerps by the ACC because TV picked him up cussing at the officials. Boss Ross also got banned from the sideline the following year for something he did the previous week, so it was the first (and probably only) time in the history of college football with both head coaches in the booth.

Clearly, no way that is a catch if they had replay. Coach Ford’s language, caught in live TV, was colorful.
Many of us wanted him to post Coach Howard as his on field replacement at the game in which he was suspended to the press box.
Yet another reason many here hate the ACC.

when Danny had to coach from the press box. I was a freshman.
On that trip I witnessed one of the lowest things I have ever seen a Clemson fan, even if he was a drunk frat guy, do.

For Clemson people it was a question of why the refs called it one.
My take was it was an extension of the anti-Clemson bias within the conference leadership that seeped down into the officials' ranks. What should have happened was our resignation from the ACC the minute they announced the additional year's penalty, which by the way, Maryland and Wake Forest strongly opposed. I believe they were forced to change their opposition by undue pressure, perhaps, threats from conference leadership for the final vote.
That Danny was penalized for the confrontation was the last straw for many of us with the conference. Unfortunately, the ACC has failed to redeem itself since.
