Question for Scotch drinkers.
Oct 31, 2019, 2:53 PM
|
|
APM recently watched a series about Scotch on Amazon Prime. Very interesting.
Anyhoo, I was looking around for a Scotch to try and am intrigued by Monkey Shoulder. Unfortunately, the ABC store didn't have it available in a mini-bottle, so I can't easily sample it.
Thoughts from those who have?

Scotch never gives me a hangover.
I don't drink enough to get drunk, though.

Been a while since I had it but it didn't go to waste.
If you looking to save a few $$$, go for it. Otherwise buy Talisker.

Nikka Coffey grain isn't prohibitively expensive.

I don't think it's much more than a $50 if you can find it on a shelf somewhere. Also, the "Coffey" is named so for the still it's produced on--nothing to do with coffee beans/grounds.

certain it was unremarkable since I can't say for sure, and I'm pretty certain that's because scotch doesn't really float my boat so much. The Macallan M is probably the best scotch pour I've had, and it should be at $300 a bottle or whatever it costs now. Peated scotch sucks. Japs do scotch better than the Scots.
That's roughly the extent of my scotch wisdom.

scotch.
I would recommend Ardbeg as your first peated - 10 year. Do this before you try Laphroaig.
Islay scotch (island off the coast) is where most of the peated scotches come from, which a lot of people do not like, but I love.

I think you have a genetic predisposition for Scotch or Bourbon. I remember one day in my misspent youth thinking, " Man, I feel like drinking Scotch!". My go-to ever since.
Know lots of Bourbon drinkers that feel the same.
Just my 2¢.

But every once in a while, Ill pour from the one bottle of scotch whiskey I have. I really didn't have a taste for it until I went to Scotland and gave a few scotch flights a try. It opened my palate a little bit. The bottle is about halfway empty now, so it has aerated a little and made it much more enjoyable.
Mini bottles aren't really going to give you that full profile as its typically just a one drink pour.
