Question for Quoz, Todd Bates

When Venables left, I had a hunch that Todd Bates would be tapped to be our new DC. What are your thoughts regarding Dabo’s plans for Bates, his coaching prowess, and the likelihood we retain him on staff for the long haul. Seems like he’s done a pretty good job here on the field and as a recruiter, but I’m no expert.

Any other conclusions we can draw here?

Been on the staff only 1 year less than Venables, seems like his tenure and recruitment and development of the corners would get him the look... DEFINITELY ahead of Conn and a defensive analyst that has never coached a position on the field.

Playing contrarian to anything Dabo does doesn’t work so well when you don’t actually ####### pay attention or know a G-D thing. He was promoted to assistant Head Coach so please try and put your negative spin on that.

received a promotion to Assistant HC along with a pay raise in Coach Swinney’s announcement.

Sounds like Dabo is looking out for him just fine to me.

He'll work closely with Dabo, as BV did in that role. Dabo called Bates a HC in the near future in the presser the other day

Bates came from Jacksonville State -- worked a couple years with the new guy, John Grass -- Dabo likes him some Alabama guy !!!!!!!!!

I would think Asst Head Coach would mean one has input on Defense and Offense plus adminstrative duties. This should better prepare Coach Bates for a future role as HC somewhere.

I will be TOTALLY surprised if he jumps to HC

without having been a coordinator... unless I have missed that particular event, please coach me up.

And I don't mean an internal hire like Ford to HC or Dabo to HC after an interim tag; we have seen that happen, but a position coach to HC as a hire for another program???? Somebody make me a believer, please...
