Question for Defensive Scheme Gurus

I see a lot of posts on here complaining that we were too conservative a played zone coverage without blitzing much yesterday. The only times I remember us playing zone was one of the few stops in the second half on third and long and then in the overtime period. If we were in zone all day, how were our corners getting beat one on one all day long? I was think we needed to play more zone and get these corners some help. There were also a number of plays where I remember Carter, Venables or Simpson trying to get to the QB so we would have to have blitzed some.

I think some people on here just want to complain about Godwin so they are gonna say he is whatever the opposite of what Venables was for us. Coach V is one of the best D Coordinators in the history of college football. Most of the top notch DCo-Ordinators of the last several years (Freeman,Aranda,Elko) are head coaches now as well. The only other Dcoordinator with any cache that I know of went to the Bucknuts. Dabo did the predictable thing and went with the known to him person for the job.

The real test for Godwin will be to see how the Defense plays this week, this year and then again next year when we face Wake again.

I saw a stat during the game that said we blitz 12 times. And Hartman was 10/12 175 yds and 2 touchdowns against the blitz. He was 5/12 when we didn’t blitz. Like I said this sometime in the beginning of the 4th when I saw that. When we blitz we left corners in man coverage, and we all saw how that went.
