Question for David Hood

Jul 10, 2020, 7:00 AM

With all the talk of most likely playing a conference only schedule, has there been any mention of allowing in-state cross conference rivalries to be played as well between the ACC-SEC?? It would be completely illogical for Clemson to be able to fly to Boston and play BC, but not play the gamecocks who are in our own state. I hope the commissioners and other higher ups have thought about this, or someone has brought it up to them.

so don't look to me for stupid decisions, but to expand your question-----what is the difference in flying to BC and winning a game that doesn't matter to anyone but us and BC or flying to South Bend and winning a game that the entire CFB world would be watching?

being in a position to control the protocols in place to keep players, coaches and officials as safe as possible.

I agree with you, if you can play one you should be able to play the other. My thought process was these decisions are being made for “safety reasons”, so if it’s safe to play a team from a different region of the country, surely it’s safe to play a team from your same state.

I get the concern about the wildcard of playing FCS or Group of 5 teams. However, why can’t the P5 execs (as reps for their school presidents) get together and hammer out an agreement on virus management and protocols? If teams are getting on airplanes to travel from TX to WV what actual difference should it make if it’s conference or out of conference play between two P5 schools? Either they have a plan to play reasonably safely or not. Why sacrifice in-state rivalries like ours, Florida, or Georgia?
