No such rule. 85 Scholarships.

You can sign as many HS or juco kids as you want in any class. But only 85 can be on scholarship.

Are you sure? I didn't think you could bring in more than 25 in one recruiting year under any circumstances.

SCar is going to have over 30.

Jan 28, 2015, 4:02 PM

Tennessee has had over 25 for the last few years.

I think there is some sort of "rule" for the SEC but everyone ignores it obviously.

Dabo has no limit per year. His goal is to hit 85 scholarships. Next year Clemson is looking at taking only around 20 because that's how many scholarships open up.

wrong; 85 total but only 25/yr. The catch is you can count

Jan 28, 2015, 4:02 PM [ in reply to No such rule. 85 Scholarships. ]

the mid year guys forward or back depending on which year has room. That is why some classes look like they have 30. It's really 25 toward one year and 5 on the other because they had 20 or less on that year.

That's how they break the "rules".***

it's always been that way

Jan 28, 2015, 4:10 PM

if you sign 30 then you either had low # actually enroll(not who signed) the previous year or you are grayshirting or expect some not to qualify(JUCO/PREP).

Considering we don't pursue many with questionable grades and we have low attrition, it is doubtful that you would see us with a class anywhere near 30...ever. If you think about it from this standpoint: if you had 0 attrition and RS everyone then you could only actually bring in ~ 17 players a year(5*17=85), you can see why we hardly ever have close to 25 to offer

Thanks for the clarification

Jan 28, 2015, 4:14 PM

Attrition happens everywhere, some more than others. I still think the 25 player rule is silly since there's so many ways to get around it. 85 scholarships is the hard number that no one can skirt around.

Not true.

Jan 28, 2015, 4:03 PM [ in reply to No such rule. 85 Scholarships. ]

You can only bring in 25 each year. Schools get around it by bringing in mid-year enrollees when they had less than 25 come in the year before. Often happens when schools have non-qualifiers. They can also grey shirt some. But the 25/85 rule is still in force.
