QB situation... We all know

Sep 11, 2013, 2:34 PM

...that Chad Kelly has been groomed from the beginning to take over for Tahj. Yes his injury set him back but 2014 he's gonna be ready. Also Chad made the QB trip to San Diego with Tahj this year not Cole. Cole did play great Saturday but Kelly is the fit for Morris offensive scheme. They have also kept quiet on behalf of his coming along if you will which is also in my opinion a sign that Morris has a plan for Kelly. And finally if you the three drives he ran before the injury, that run and gun offense he had going was the shiz!!!!!

If Kelly and Stoudt are dead even, I don't see how you don't give it to Kelly, considering he'll have 2 more years with the team, whereas next year will be Cole's last.

Of course this will cause a controversy.

That said, I don't expect Chad to be ahead of Stoudt in terms of understanding the offense/accuracy before Stoudt leaves.

The team will be in good hands when Tajh leaves.

It is going to be awful around here after the first interception, no matter who wins the job.

That's not true. Stoudt gets more reps in practice so you

could make the claim that he's being groomed to be Boyd's replacement, even if for one year. I'm thinking unless Stoudt gets hurt, no way he doesn't start against UGA next year.

Football positions are earned on the field, not from recruiting star ratings. Our coaches know this. I'm sure Morris knows Kelly has potential but you don't make some preconceived decision based on potential. The QB has to execute in practice and whoever does it best, will win the job.

I don't agree. I think it is and has been Stoudt's job

to lose.

No doubt Kelly was seen as a great fit for Morris's offense, and Morris wanted Kelly here at Clemson. If that means that Kelly has been groomed for the job, then so be it.

Having said that, Stoudt has a decided experience advantage, and all along has performed well when he had a chance.

The coaches want the best player, the one who gives us the best chance to win, that day, on the field, regardless of who they may be "grooming" for the job, and I think it's a mistake to assume that Kelly will be that guy come next fall. Maybe he will be, but right now, it looks like Stoudt has a clear advantage, but there is no reason to assume that will change.

Morris went after Kelly, he was the only QB he offered that year, and stated that Kelly was the only one he would offer. With that being said I do beleive the best will be on the feild next fall. I also beleive it will be Kelly. Not taking anything away from Stoudt, but I believe Kelly will out shine Stoudt next year. This could be a moot point if Morris leaves after this season.

contingent here on T-net who has been saying that all along, even before they ever saw Kelly last spring or in last week's game; in other words, their assumption that Kelly was going to be "the man" was based entirely on hope and wishful thinking, and completely discounting any effort or performance on Cole Stoudt's part.

I agree. Kelly might perform at a very high level next spring and win the job. Stoudt probably lacks Kelly's athleticism, but is probably ahead in terms of understanding more of the offense. This offense, by the way, will still have a number of play makers not at the QB position and being able to distribute the ball to them will be pretty important.

The other thing about Kelly's spring performance is that he had more weapons longer in the game. Stoudt had Sammy, but not for long.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Yep - and remember, Will Proctor was the best

Spring Game player we've ever had. You just can't base too much off of that.

Is it possible..

Sep 11, 2013, 3:19 PM

That we could see both Kelly and Stoudt next year in Athens? They obviously both have special skill sets that arguably makes them deserving of the job. Would it be such a bad thing to have 2 qbs that see significant playing time?

By definition, in the wildcat, you have a running back taking the snap in the QB's spot. Are you saying that we snap the ball to Brooks, Gallman, Dye, or some other running back with Kelly in the slot receiver position?

Sep 11, 2013, 3:28 PM [ in reply to Is it possible.. ]

Chad Kelly was the man for sure but Saturday we saw Cole really show his stuff. I think Cole is a good QB in alot of ways but from what ive seen in the past he hasnt shown any qualities as a complete starter. But its possible that he knows the fight is up VS Kelly now and therefore we are starting to see what he can really do. I was mainly focused on seeing Kelly as the starter due the fact that Tahj is basically nurturing from last season onto this one, basically keeping him at shoulders length at all times, even tweets, instagrams, etc hinting that Chad is gonna be the man when he steps up. I personally think even in the spring game they went into it already knowing they were gonna give Chad the second string job this year..But now that we all have seen Cole tear it up and up the anty if you will this is def gonna be fun to see who takes it. I do agree tho that Cole is probably more mature on the playbook side of things, but is his athleticism gonna beat Chad out...or of course we good move into a situation with Deshaun Watson being like Jameis Winston and coming right in and blowing heads off lol...In the end who cares right we will have three awesome QBs and that is something we havent and really need...im excited

Do not expect to play until you are a rs junior.

Sep 11, 2013, 3:28 PM

1) we will play the person who gives us the best shot to win now.
2) the expectation is you will redshirt then backup for 2 years

We have been clear with kelly and our recruits.

Stout is darn good and will earn the starting qb job next year and lead us to the orange bowl. Chris Morocco'esque.

Kelly will start 2 years, then our stud recruit takes over.

Media and idiot internet posters will create drama, where there is none...but it's very simple and a great situation for all parties.

Re: Do not expect to play until you are a rs junior.

Sep 11, 2013, 3:54 PM

I'd love to see that scenario play itself out, but the real world rarely works that neatly. Kelly has made good progress to date and pushed Stoudt despite much less time in the system. It will be interesting to see how he does with another season, bowl practice, and then a head to head battle in the spring.
