Concerning Clemson, Why the dislike of the color Purple?

Purple is the perfect secondary color to orange. Here at clemson, I don't understand why so many people dislike the idea of purple jerseys, and fans wearing purple. It looks great! The all purple football uniform combination is probably the best alternative uniform in college football! I feel like 85% of the purple haters however, are the same people that scream "BAN THE WAHOOO" at least three times per game, and when asked why, always reply with the classic "BECUZZ IT'S GAY". Anyways those people can talk about it over a Chic fil-a dinner. Enough of my ranting.

Football understand how much more impressive a sea of orange in Death Valley looks on tv and in person than a washed out mix of colors.
Nobody hates purple. Purple just needs to know its place.

no seriously, the only combo i don't like is orange unis and purple pants. That is disgusting. I would like to adopt purple unis and white pants for home ooc games. that would give a little purple but not too much.

another thing - I don't ever remember the shade of purple we've worn recently being a color we wore in the past. I've been going to Clemson games since around 1962 or so and there was never any purple in the pre-Tiger Paw uniforms - there were blue stripes as I recall, not the purple we have now.

but reading your post made me dust it off:
i will be SO glad if and when the day comes that Clemson folks realize that our #### colors are orange and purple and NOT orange and white or worse, orange and navy blue. i'm so sick and tired of the anti-purple crowd.....we're the only orange and purple school in the nation and why we don't shove it down everyone's throat i'll never understand. i cannot stand the conformity and the "it's feminine or ugly" and all of the other BS. orange and purple IS Clemson and nobody else in the nation. That counts for something to me....our uniforms should be a drowning in orange and purple and i don't give a #### if it's ugly or not, the ### whipping that you leave DV with should be what you're dealing with, from that orange and purple wave that split your ear drums apart with noise and Tiger facemasks in opponent's chests all #### day.....and by the way, i'm not a young Tiger fan....going on my 36th year of Tiger Football fandom....my first game was the '77 ND game in DV.

And look like Furman. Incorporating purple into other aspects of the university is fine. For football uniforms I prefer the more intimidating orange. That is my opinion--I have a right to that, being in America. No one loves Clemson any more than I do. If you really loved it, you would care about other fans and alumni.

We did not wear purple at what may have been the most embarassing loss of all time - Last year's Orange Bowl. It is our school color. Always has been. It is all Clemson. By the way, I graduated in 71 and don't like the Woohoo. Don't like CLEMSON IN CADENCE - COUNT in double time. Those are just preferences. Orange AND PURPLE is not a preference. It is Clemson and I love Clemson.

and says the EXACT same thing....great to hear the old school folks' take on this especially since those who harp the loudest about "tradition" at Clemson don't realize how much purple IS really Clemson. Orange will always be the dominant color, and rightfully so, but purple and orange stand for only one school in the nation, and that's the Tigers.

Purple unis in the beat down of Ga Tech when Gameday was in town in 2006. Purple pants in the win at Wake in 2006 when Gaines took the kickoff attempt back and turned the game around. Purple jerseys in the defeat of NCSU in 2006.
It has worked for us before.

Of navy because when I was growing up watching the Tigers win 10 games regularly it was navy, not purple as the secondary color. Navy is a much more.....accepted, for lack of a better term, non-gameday color as well. You can rock orange or navy or both without being so....tacky at the office etc. The purple is just too flashy to wear. That being said, I do think the all purple uniforms are sharp but have always stuck to orange when buying my own Clemson gear. Never bought one single purple hat or shirt.

that the uniform color we wear somehow determines wins and losses. Uniform colors don't win games, players and coaches do! Typically if a bad Clemson team wore orange, they lost. If a bad Clemson team wore purple, they lost. And vice versa with winning. Stop coming up with combinations that worked or didn't work from the past. Uniform colors have absolutely no relevance and you're just relying on superstition.
Yes, I agree that orange is a more manly color, but I accept purple because it is a Clemson color.
If we put the best possible team out on the field, the respect will come and it won't matter what pant/jersey combination we have on.

If you like and want to wear purple then do so, also next time if you ever go to a game in DV see how many times the cheer leaders or fans do a cheer with the word purple in it, always has been and always will be a cheer with ORANGE White, I for one will never wear the color purple to a Clemson game of any sport.

Exactly this. Just because they don't enjoy something involving Clemson, they think that everyone else shouldn't either and should respect their opinion as universal.

purple like univ. of Washington, Kansas State, or Furman, but Clemson can't seem to get the shade right.
I think the perfect combo would be Burnt Orange and the blue from the state flag. If not that then Navy Blue or the shade of Blue that BYU uses.
