So, I visited the eye specialist again yesterday.

I received my third opinion. The news was not good but it could be worse and it was not devastating either. I am scheduled to have 4 surgeries in the next three months. First surgery will be on my right eye on January 11th, then 1 week later they will do surgery on my leftt eye. Then in March they will do a second surgery on my right eye and in April a second surgery on my left eye. I will also continue to receive injections in both eyes monthly and indefinitely.
The doctor explained everything to me. He said if I don't have the surgeries I will lose my complete eye site within 12 months. One thing he said that made me nervous, 1 in 2500 patients will lose eye site as a result of the surgery as it does not work for everyone and a serious hemorrhage could occur during surgery.
Anyway, the surgeries will not restore my vision but they may help with stopping future vision loss. It is a gamble but the alternative will be to lose vision completely. This was the 3rd doctor I have seen and this doctor was recommended by the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville.
I am thankful that there is a possibility this will help and that is all I can ask for.

Yes, prayers that the surgery is successful! Thanks for sharing, My eyesight has deteriorated over the last year and a half and went for my contact exam and after many test the Dr. would not give me a prescription for contacts, because after many test in the office that day, she could not figure out why i still had simi double vision in my right eye and a little in my left. She could not see a torn or detached retina and I have had 2 torn retina's so I know abut those. But, I will be going to a specialist. Its no fun not being able to see well and also a little scary so I somewhat feel for you!

Hope all goes well! There are new developments and techniques developed daily. I mentioned that my grandson went to Miami to gene therapy surgery and it not only sured his eye problem but reversed the previous malady. Up until now, I think that surgery had been in experimental stages and it is now being done regularly. Another friend lost total vision in his right eye after an infection, but the doctors left the eye intact as they think there is a possibility his sight can be restored. Just keep your spirits up. There are a lot of people you don't know praying for you!

...chose to NOT have the surgery, and yes, he ended up losing both eyes about 4 years before he passed. Man, have that surgery. He always regretted not doing so. Praying for you.
