Proof of ESPN’s stupidity, Re: Player Impact Rating

Dec 6, 2019, 3:12 PM

LB Dillon Harris is listed @ 99 rating, no. 2 to Tua also at 99. Dillon Harris is a LB for UConn with 26 total tackles and 2 sacks. LB Isaiah Simmons is nowhere to be found. How is that for trash? Sorry, no offense to Mr. Harris.

As I recall something of how "player impact rating" works, it's based on how the team fares with the player on the field and with the player off the field.

Simmons is obviously one of the best defensive players in the country. But, to his "player impact" detriment, BV's defense doesn't start sucking just because Simmons is off the field. So if we're giving up 2.3 yards per play (not sure what the real number is, made this up, seems close) with Simmons on the field and 2.4 yards per play with him off the field, his personal "player impact" number may not be that good.

Doesn't mean he's not a huge factor when he's on the field.
