prayer request/update

Today was 2 weeks since mom's stroke. In the past few days she has been upgraded from 'honey thick' to 'nectar thick' liquids. She has been upgraded from pureed food to regular food that has been cut up small. She is eating with a fork now, not a spoon. She is starting to babble more difficult consonants (d, f, g, t) than she had been saying. She has said my name a couple of times and has learned to say I love you. Today she was more interested in her cell phone than she has been. She read text messages, emails, and even wanted to play a word game (she LOVES games with words/language). When I left tonight she would not let me take her phone with me like I have been doing. About 5 minutes after I left, my phone rang and it was her, just babbling and 'telling' me some good stuff. I have NO IDEA what she said, but I know that she did! After about a minute she said, 'night night, bye!' and hung up. My brother texted me a few minutes later and she had called him too! He flew home this morning and she said something to him about 'home' and then he got a 'bye' too. She is fighting hard and keeping her spirits up. She may just be sitting by my side in Death Valley come September!!

Strokes can leave the patient and the whole family feeling helpless. Glad to see your mother is improving and making progress. That should be very encouraging to you.

loved to get in my old convertible and head from his nursing home in G'ville NC over to Morehead City or little Beaufort areas where his Dad came from (surrounded by water, good Flounder to eat) or to New Bern for a BBQ & visit original pharmacy where Pepsi began.
Dad still recognized everyone, knew what was being said and listened intently..but He never could talk past 3 or 4 words without getting frustrated since in his mind the remaining words of the sentence were leaving his brain correctly, but were not coming out of his mouth correctly or in order..thus I was confused and asked him if what I'd heard was what he meant..and he shook his head in disbelief..and either shut up or almost cried.
But, we still enjoyed light day travel, eating out (ate like a sailor til 87 b/4 passing), shopping for stuff needed, me talking to him & being together. Oh, He loved his little dog which was his company..and watching CNN (tells you something!)
One of the best & few times he came to Clemson was during the 1977 ND game at DV..and when HC Dan Devine gave our section a "finger" when his team had finally gotten the lead and win underhand..my Dad jumped up, yelled down at him from a hundred yards, and wanted to go after the azzhOle. (Way to go Dad, even if you were a TarHeel Man).
