If that wasn’t targeting by #20 for Oklahoma...

Nov 23, 2018, 8:55 PM

there has never been an instance of targeting in college football. Lowered the helmet, launched and made helmet to helmet contact with the crown... what more did the ref need to see??? How the heck do they miss that call?!!??

if that aint targeting what is. glad they didnt call it. seems the acc is the only conference in love with targeting

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

You're glad?

Nov 23, 2018, 8:58 PM

So you would rather the refs not make that call? Why? As OP stated; that was textbook and had the textbook result. The offensive player suffered a head injury.

Re: You're glad?

because the targeting call has gotten out of control. there are hard hits in football. that was a football play. nothing the guy did was intentional. the are many targeting calls made on defensive players that are made from offensive guys lowering their head. the call has been taken to a place it should not have been taken. it has cost us at least 3 times this year.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I think there are some problems with the rule

Nov 23, 2018, 9:26 PM

But I think you are missing the point on this one.

This isn't about the fact that targeting is sometimes called on form tackles (helmet to helmet hits when the defender has his eyes up and their helmets happen to hit).

This is about teaching defenders not to lower their head, lead with their helmet, and instead keep their eyes up.

And they can do that. And it should be flagged when, because they didn't, they hit the offensive player in the head with their helmet.

I'm not even sure it wasnt intentional

Nov 23, 2018, 9:32 PM [ in reply to Re: You're glad? ]

Kinda looked to me like he sized him up and went head hunting.

I think the vast majority of targeting violations are incidental, but I'm not sure about this one...

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

While that may be true

Nov 23, 2018, 9:33 PM

It doesn't matter... the fact is the defender did not intentionally keep his head up to avoid that sort of hit.

THAT is what the rule is in place to enforce.

We all said the same thing!!! I can’t believe they didn’t call that.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

WOW, someone needs to be fired for missing that

Nov 23, 2018, 8:58 PM

Never say you care about player safety and then miss that.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

That was text book targeting. I can't believe replay never

Nov 23, 2018, 8:58 PM

looked at it. They had several minutes while the guy was down on the field.

The refs have been awful with the targeting rule lately. Big XII trying to protect their one team with a shot at the playoff.

That is exactly what that was about

Nov 23, 2018, 9:20 PM

OU loses and they have no chance at the CFP.

Hate to agree with a dirtpecker, but if the rule means anything it should be strict in every situation so that guys won't push the envelope. I don't mind if it is called in close situations, if it is consistent, I am okay, it just never seems to be. If we don't get a handle on concussions, there will be no football in twenty years,

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Sad thing is it wasn't even reviewed

Our guy would have been disqualified before the whistle blew.

Simmons was called for targeting for touching dukes helmet.

Any other team and it would've been called. B12 trying to keep OK in the hunt for playoff. Horrible no call.

The probably mistook Oklahoma red for crimson...***
