Portal Questions

Read on another site that there are around 3,000 players in the portal. Are there time limits on how long someone can be in the portal? Do they have to re-enter each year if no one picks them up? Are there age limits? If we have another Joe Burrow at age 25, and no one picks him up, does he get zapped out of the portal once he turns 26?

No limit as far as I know, but your eligibility clock keeps ticking.

Also, important to note that once you enter the portal, your previous school does not have to honor your scholarship if you decide not to leave. Unfortunately, that is likely to happen to hundreds-to-thousands of these kids who made snap decisions to look for greener grass.

I haven't seen an updated report but I believe heading into bowl season there were around 2,300 players in the football portal and there was an estimated 900 roster spots available I believe.

If it's over 3,000 now then it is likely that only around a third of them will find a new home.

That means we are probably looking at 2,000 kids who are no longer on a free ride for a college education.

You can work at Burger King and be in the Portal but you cannot go to school unless you write a check which is the problem with these kids giving up their scholarship.

Wow. So it's even worse than I realized, but at least players can't just camp out in there until they are too old to play. Assuming there are no rules put in place, do you guys think players will eventually wise up and not leave unless they know 100% that there is another scholarship or opportunity for them? Or do you think the number in the portal will keep growing even after the new wears off?

Once enrolled in school, you only have 5 years to get your 4 years of eligibility in. The clock starts ticking once enrolled.
