Please tell me that I wasn't the only one

Dec 6, 2015, 1:10 AM

who noticed the blatant hold down the field on the first UNC touchdown.

Or that Shaq Lawson was held on basically every play.

Or that the definition of targeting happened to DW4 on the play that caused him to leave the game.

Bad calls happen quite frequently. That is a fact.

More facts:

Only team that's 13-0.

Only team with 3 top-10 wins.

Go Tigers.

"Because at the end of the game, everyone knew that they weren’t that much better than us or better than us at all."

You know it

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

It was only TOO obvious...

Dec 6, 2015, 1:45 AM

The I'm going to lie down on top of this guy non call and the hands to the face of bouleware by hood so that marquis could run. Green looked like he went shoulder pad in first half to me.

I saw them also! Bad calls kept the game closer than it really was.

You weren't the only one. ;-)***

DW wasn't defenseless.

Dec 6, 2015, 2:11 AM

As a runner you aren't a defenseless player by rule, therefore targeting doesn't apply.

Blatant targeting

badge-donor-15yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Ah, meets the 'crown of the helmet' portion of the rule...

Dec 6, 2015, 2:18 AM

which doesn't have to be a defenseless player.

Didn't think it only applied to defenseless players

Targeting and Initiating Contact With the Crown of the Helmet (Rule 9-1-3)

No player shall target and initiate contact against an opponent with the crown (top) of his helmet. When in question, it is a foul.

Defenseless player is only 1 of the 4 key elements. I don't think all elements must be in play for targeting. You could argue example 8 in the link

Yes, see above.

Dec 6, 2015, 2:21 AM

The defenseless player portion is when you can't hit them in the head with a forearm or shoulder.

It didn't mean it didn't apply to defenseless players

Dec 6, 2015, 2:22 AM

Just that it didn't ONLY apply to them. It clearly meets Target and Crown of Helmet

Dec 6, 2015, 2:24 AM

Good thing the ACC won't officiate another game this season.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

There are multiple parts to the rule.

Dec 6, 2015, 2:30 AM [ in reply to It didn't mean it didn't apply to defenseless players ]

1. No player can ever use the crown of the helmet to strike another players helmet. That is what happened here, and thus it was indeed targeting.

2. Players defined as 'defenseless' are given more protections than just the crown of the helmet.

Agreed. Don't have to be defenseless, but

Dec 6, 2015, 2:32 AM

defenseless players have more 'opportunities' to receive targeting

Clemson

Helmet to helmet has nothing to do with being helpless. You can't lead with your helmet. The guy clearly leads with his helmet and he hits Deshaun's helmet. Targeting.
I think Deshaun went out and they were checking him for a concussion.
