It was a very bad look

Aug 30, 2019, 9:28 AM

I watched the GT game from last year & I noticed the defense looking to the sidelines for instructions from the coach while GT was ready to run plays.

This year there is video of the coaches screaming at the players when they were looking at the sidelines for instructions while GT was ready to snap the football.

I didn't think this kinda of screaming went on at Clemson.

The only way to solve this problem is to allow a player "on the field to call plays in certain situations".

The defense could lineup & wait for the designated player to call the plays. Their eyes will always be on the offense.

Young high schoolers watching the reaction of the coaches screaming at the players is not a good look.

Why are they looking to the sidelines?

They are afraid to do anything without permission. They are looking to see what the coach wants done.

If the defensive coaches won't allow a player to call the plays, just allow them to run a series of plays when teams try and speed up the game.

Please stop screaming at players while on camera.

A&M knows that if they speed up play, Clemson will be looking to the sidelines.

It's working, so I have no problem with that

Aug 30, 2019, 9:31 AM

We were the #1 defense in the country last year, and they played lights out last night (1st string). So scream away I say.

Yeah this season is a failure. These new young starters should look like 5th year seniors. Fire Venables and take Batson with you.

and with 80000 people in the stands yelling at top of their lungs you think the coaches can be heard speaking softly? If these guys can't take that by your definition they better not ever be marines

Well, guess I will bite on this one. Since about BVs second year here, we have been a top 5 defense pretty much every year, finishing 1st several times. All while playing in a league that has seen lots of future NFL QBs. Also, he has had over a dozen or so 1st round draft picks from his defense, and dozens more make the NFL. Why does all this matter? Well, if we just forget those two large shiny golden trophies, there is still a lot of evidence that suggest his way works. Does it sometimes skip a beat? Sure. But I have noticed a very important trend to BV defenses. If they have a bad or mediocre game, it is usually followed up with dominant performances in the following weeks. Last night I actually thought BV was the most reserved I have seen him in years. So, maybe we just have different views. I'm pretty sure the players cant take some loud works and gestures for the success and potential millions that he helps them one day attain. S/F

Aug 30, 2019, 10:10 AM

If you did, you may be the only player in the history of the game who didn't his a$$ chewed-out by the coaches periodically.

Naw dude. Kids that have played football on any level have been yelled and screamed at since they’ve been playing the game. No matter where they go they’re going to be yelled and screamed at. It’s a violent and physical game, being yelled at is absolutely nothing to these kids. And you must be new to watching Clemson coaches on the sidelines. You need to look up Dabo yelling at Andy Teasdall, hasn’t seemed to hurt recruiting at all.

Maybe Dabo will let you on the sidelines to help him so he can win a national championship.

Re: A Marine is upset by some hollering??***

Aug 30, 2019, 10:27 AM

Main reason none of it bothered me in the Corps? Because starting my freshman year I had Archie Reese, my DC at the time yelling at me, cussing, destroying my soul for about 3 years after he came back home to coach. What's funny is that be year 4 i loved that man and he rarely yelled at most of us, because we had learned his system and were usually in position. Even when he did, it was ok, it prepared me for this mean old world filled with insurgents and Coot fans! Go Tigers.

I'm not sure the OP was in the "old Corps" and may have never had a Marine Drill Instructor threaten to "pluck out your eyeball" and do something quite unseemly to your skull ...... and believe that he might actually do it! Yelling on the sideline pales in comparison. I don't think I would worry about how it might look.
