Picture tells the story

Streeter hates the middle of the field... or DJ doesn't look...

I’d like to see that chart for the season up to this point, it’s crazy how we don’t use the middle!

It was posted yesterday along with game 3***

confidence of his QB by not putting the ball where there is a higher percentage of an interception. Or it could be that the receivers running routes down the middle aren’t open. The chart only tells one part of the story, not the whole story.

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I disagree

Sep 20, 2022, 6:39 AM

It tells the whole story; we don’t pass to the middle of the field.

The reason is irrelevant.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Except we did 9 times against Furman

Sep 20, 2022, 7:27 AM

when the D was allowing for it

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Exactly. 9x against Furman and 6x against GT.

Sep 20, 2022, 8:44 AM

I don't understand the weird fascination with throwing over the middle, especially when it was only one game, a dominant win over La Tech where we didn't.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Exactly. 9x against Furman and 6x against GT.

Sep 20, 2022, 10:21 AM

Some just want to find a problem for every solution. DJ looks much improved, Clemson is winning games, but some are more worried about where the ball is being thrown. A TD in the corner of the Endzone is just as good in the middle of the Endzone to me.

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

The concern is that we won't be able to throw the ball over

Sep 20, 2022, 11:02 AM

the middle of the field against tougher defenses, because we haven't practiced it and/or aren't able.

We obviously haven't needed to do it against the three opponents thus far, but we probably will at some point if we want to beat the better teams on our schedule.

Sep 20, 2022, 7:44 AM [ in reply to I disagree ]

Its not irrelevant if you want to fix the problem. They were not open. Other teams actually cover over the middle.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

There isn't a problem though.

Sep 20, 2022, 8:45 AM

What are you folks talking about??

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Okay, then why do we not have any QBs who can throw

Sep 20, 2022, 11:00 AM [ in reply to Or it could be that Streeter is trying to further build the ]

over the middle of the field, or WRs who can get open in the middle of the field?

You would think 4-5 star talent could do that with at least some regularity, especially against the likes of Furman and Louisiana Tech.

If you are correct, it's a coaching issue. And if you aren't correct, and our players can execute it but our coaches are philosophically against throwing over the middle, it's still a coaching issue.

Do you have the same chart for other teams?

Sep 20, 2022, 7:24 AM

Would be nice to see how we compare

Re: Picture tells the story

Sep 20, 2022, 7:53 AM

DJ usually hasn't got time to stand in the pocket due to lack of protection. He's right handed, and he feels more comfortable throwing across while rolling to his right than rolling left and having to adjust as he tries to adjust to an awkward throwing motion.

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I want to see charts for other teams and the last 3 opponent

Sep 20, 2022, 8:14 AM

Charts against our D. That would tell even more of the story.

How did we get to the point where our O cannot pass and complete passes down field or in the middle of the field any more? Recruiting? Development? Coaching? Play calling?

Sep 20, 2022, 8:37 AM

Who cares, we are 3-0. Last year it was Tony Elliott, this year it is Streeter. Find another team to trash.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Yes, it was Elliott last year.

Sep 20, 2022, 11:03 AM

Our offense was pretty bad, despite being loaded with talent.

That's a problem, and it seems to be continuing under Streeter.

Yeah, that says we threw there 15x in the first two games.

Sep 20, 2022, 8:40 AM

That's certainly reasonable.

So what's the infatuation all about anyway? Would we be undefeated if we threw over the middle against La Tech?

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

all it says is that there were more compl to the right

Sep 20, 2022, 8:44 AM

maybe dj has more confidence in the receiver(s) on the right
maybe we liked the matchup vs the corner/safety/LB on the right
maybe the receivers on the right are the ones who get open
maybe the read is simplified and goes from right to left and he never really gets past that side

military_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: all it says is that there were more compl to the right

Sep 20, 2022, 10:52 AM

Plus La Tech played a lot of Tampa 2 coverage that reduces the availability down the middle of the field.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Any QBs coach will tell you, 10+ yard passes to the outside

Sep 20, 2022, 11:08 AM

are the hardest to execute.

Well, maybe not our QBs coach, but most.
