Pickens County schools have to go back to virtual learning..
Aug 18, 2021, 3:02 PM

The Pickens County School District in South Carolina has moved back to virtual learning, after experiencing an outbreak of COVID-19 cases.
The district held an emergency session Friday where they announced a plan to shift temporarily to learning remote.
WSPA-TV reported that as of Friday afternoon, 142 students in the district had tested positive for COVID-19 and 26 employees had. Another 634 students were in quarantine, which was about five percent of the student body.

Yeah this was announced last week. Plan is to resume in person learning next Monday with sports to resume practices this coming Saturday the 21st. I was supposed to officiate one of county school's football game this Friday but it was of course cancelled. Hope my assignment for next Friday doesn't meet the same fate.

Plus several teachers are in the hospital.
There have been protests by the usual ######## wanting everyone back in school…mask less.

Kids need to be in school. These lockdowns and all of this BS has been gross overkill and fear mongering and it has been devastating to children.
The cure is worse than the disease.
Kids were in school last fall in Charleston and there were no problems.
If the teachers are vaccinated there’s no problem. What are they so scared of? Sounds to me like you people don’t believe in vaccines. Sounds like you don’t have confidence in the vaccines. Because if you did this would not be bothering anyone.

I don't know the answer to this... were the kids being tested last year? I know more kids are being tested this year because they are being encouraged to. Last year the kids were not the focus.

I’m just thankful my kids aren’t in Pickens County schools. Let’s be honest in classroom or virtual Pickens county isn’t winning any awards. Thank goodness for Anderson county 1 and their schools. They have already came out and said in class and the school system is actually good so it’s warrants it.

This is the new normal for the world we live in. Covid 19 is here to stay. It is the new flu. It just stays year round and there is always a new variation around the corner. We just need to figure out how we are going to respond to each one.

You cannot teach school without Teachers. We have to be prepared to tell our kids that we are asking them to do things in order to keep the employees of the school safe and able to work. COVID is all around us, I don't disagree that it is part of the new normal. If the Flu was as contagious as COVID is we would have to have similar protocols. There are only so many substitute teachers available. Not to mention how effective is the education system if the instructors are a revolving door based on teachers getting sick...It's a really tough situation.
We live down in Florida, my wife teaches at the same school our kids go to, and it has been a mess here too. New kids coming down with COVID almost every day.

Kids need to keep the teachers safe?
Kids have very little to be concerned about when it comes to Covid and if the teachers and administrators have been vaccinated there is no reason not to have school.
You can’t have your cake and eat it too.
Either vaccines work or they don’t. You can’t scream at everyone to get vaccinated but then even after The teachers and administrators are vaccinated you still don’t want to have school. That’s insanity!
Why should people get vaccinated, take an experimental rushed vaccine, when clearly it doesn’t seem to be making a difference and scared little children on the left are still going to want to close everything down. Insane!
You can’t say a vaccine is great and then people that are vaccinated be scared to go back to work. That is total BS and contradictory and you can’t have it both ways.
Furthermore, and I keep repeating this but people won’t listen, Covid is not as bad as viruses in the past and we did not act this way in the past. Why are we acting this way now? Trump, money, the Democrats, the far left, power and control!

I never endorsed someone using COVID as a placed to hide from going to work. My point was more that we have to be responsible during these waves, and be diligent about being honest with our schools, employers, and others...if you are sick, if your kids are sick, etc. stay home. Don't be selfish and knowingly spread the disease. Use your common sense.
My wife and I are both vaccinated, and are both going to work every day.
I travel for work and hit the road a few times per month. In fact I went from one hot spot (Florida) to another (Louisiana) this week. I try to use common sense when it comes to this mess, and wear a mask when I feel it is appropriate or required.
At my office we are 80% vaccinated with more than 2,000 people on campus. Our infection rate is much lower than the general population of the county were we are located.
My Wife's school is probably +/- 50% vaccinated when it comes to the faculty and their infection rate with both faculty and students is pretty bad right now.
Again, nobody said hide from life. However, you cannot hide from the fact that if there are no teachers there is no school.

So you’re prepared to continue dramatically increasing the teen suicide rate so that unvaccinated adults can continue to refuse the vaccine? Because that’s the only group at risk anymore.

Walhalla High School has pretty much their entire football team and coaches in quarantine. Their game scheduled for Friday has been cancelled. Not sure how many have actually tested positive.

I wish people understood the PCR test.

No one should be getting tested unless they have symptoms. A positive PCR test does not mean you have Covid. And if you have had Covid even when the virus is long gone you can actually still test positive for months afterwards.
This is being handled so poorly and no one is following the science or the data and people wonder why people are skeptical. Because it’s all a bunch of political BS!
This does not mean Covid isn’t serious. Doesn’t mean certain groups of people are not at risk. But you don’t shut down the world and you don’t institute things that are worse for people than the actual virus, which is what we have been doing!
