No more early commitments please

May 18, 2022, 4:04 PM

With Nathaniel Joseph potentially about to flip to Miami, I’d rather these kids just wait until national signing day to announce their school of choice.

Miami has bigger NIL money than Clemson.

We're going to have to re-double our 'culture' efforts to attract those kids who have longer term aspirations than making some easy money in college.

We may need to adjust, but Joseph committed before NIL went crazy. Now we have the billionaire Miami booster giving out big money to lure recruits. Being from Miami I am sure it will be hard for Joseph to turn the money down, but sure hope he does and signs with us.

i get what you are saying but ...

I'm not sure how that works out for us. If we don't get kids committed early that just gives them more time to get pitched dirty money from everywhere else. I just hope that some kind of restrictions get put in place soon or trying to recruit based on anything but money is going to be tough...

All kid committing early achieves is that he suddenly becomes a big target for the NIL teams to poach. Early commitments don't mean anything any more so getting excited about any player committing is fools gold. Honestly, until the guy is running down the hill on game day you are no longer going to really know who will be on your team from week to week if the rules aren't dramatically changed. What's to stop a team from buying a key player right out from under you in the middle of the season because that team is playing you in a few weeks and wants to weaken you as much as possible? That's right, absolutely nothing.

opening bid for my services is." That in no way is what the NCAA envisioned NIL to be. But, when you have been neutered by the courts, as the NCAA has been, this is the kind of "Anything Goes" environment you wind up with.

Two more years, if changes have not been made in two more years, college football as we have known it is completely dead.
