Crazy weather - I finally had to pull up 2 pepper

Jan 18, 2022, 5:02 PM

plants due to the cold getting to them. I picked a couple of bell peppers and about 25 banana peppers off those 2 plants on January 3 because I thought they would get frozen that night but they didn't die until this week. They were still blooming and had several tiny peppers on them when the cold finally got to them - won't be long until I can plant more.

I had a couple of guys try to fool me by tempting me to chomp down on a Habanero way back before they became common.

These are hybrids . Look just like a jalapeno but as much heat as a bell pepper

Pepper plants really produce as they get older. The plants are bigger with more branches. I had bell peppers that were producing a lot until the cold got them.

I recently read that pepper plants are actually perennials, just not freeze hardy. Supposedly you can dig them up and put in a large pot to over winter them in garage or somewhere they won't freeze. Then replant in spring for a major headstart on production.

Spinach and garlic are better cold weather choices in the UpState.

My only hope for a green thumb is when I use green paint.

Sure glad my wife LOVES to cook. She went out of town for a couple weeks when the kids were young, and they asked her what were they going to eat while she was gone. She told them I would feed them. They all said “You know the only thing we’ll get is food you microwave or pour milk over, right?”

I told them you do neither to a bowl of ice cream, so they let her take the trip…..
