Panthers and Clemson

Apr 29, 2016, 7:48 AM

Bunch of butt hurt cry babies on here, probably some who were at the sit-in. Do you Panthers haters truly believe that NFL GMs and coaches give two craps about where somebody went to school? If you answered yes, you must be in middle school. I wish it would've worked out for Dodd or Mack with Panthers just like y'all, but it did not. Too bad. I cannot say with confidence that I can evaluate talent, potential and position need better than the defending NFC champs / back to back to back NFC south champs.
So they didn't take Dodd or Mack, does that mean the Panthers have something against Clemson? NO!! Grow up and put you big boy britches if that's what you believe.
Sorry for that rant but this "Panthers hates Clemson" mentality is tired and unwarranted. Go Tigers! Go Panthers!

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Yes, they do care about where someone went to school.

Apr 29, 2016, 7:50 AM

We are the perfect evidence since basically any WR coming from Clemson has his draft stock raised due to us being WRU. So yea, that's proof.

WR from Clemson has an effect. It means they competed for their spot against the best other WRs in the country, they had excellent WR coaching and strength training, and they were required to block to be on the field. It ABSOLUTELY has an affect. It's not taking anything away from these really talented kids, it just means that our University is known for producing quality WRs.

They have a great reputation, no doubt. Their draft stock is still based predominately on THEIR talent, performance and combine workouts, etc. If Vernon butler went to Clemson, Vernon butler would still be a panther. If shaq thompson or kelvin Benjamin went to Clemson...well you get the point.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Agreed. Most of their draft stock is based on them..

Apr 29, 2016, 11:05 AM

But in the case where you had two equally talented WRs from two different schools, say Clemson and Scar, I'd bet 10/10 times that the Clemson guy gets picked first based on being from Clemson.

You have to admit it's pretty curious, given how often

Apr 29, 2016, 9:12 AM

NFL teams will draft a "local" guy, that they've never drafted a player from probably the closest big-time football school to Charlotte. You'd think in the last twenty years they'd have driven the 2 hours down 85 and evaluated an under-the-radar guy to take in the later rounds at least but that's never happened.

#### the Panthers drafted Armanti Edwards. You think proximity (i.e. what school he went to) didn't play a role in that?

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I don't think it's curious at all. They try and draft the

Apr 29, 2016, 9:25 AM

best players out there to help their team. I think what some people don't understand is the fact that there are so many good players out there every year.

GMs aren't biased against colleges. Fans on college websites are just biased in favor of players at their schools.

have a CU player as the best available for their needs in the 20+ years they've been a franchise.

Baltimore (Ravens) and "Carolina" are the only teams to have NEVER drafted a Clemson player and one of those teams is two hours down the road.

Conspiracy? No, probably not. But seems like they'd have pulled the trigger on someone by now.

Add the "coincidence" their (Panthers) President is a graduate of UNC and USuCk, the two local schools in this general area that hate Clemson the most...

Danny Morrison absolutely ZERO input on who the GM and coaches want to draft. Now if you want to have your company's name on the scoreboard or want to talk marketing campaigns, then you'll be working with the president.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

it would be like if the Saints never drafted an LSU guy

or the Browns and Bengals ignoring Ohio State guys.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

And what's fishy is they have drafted several out of USUck

Apr 29, 2016, 4:00 PM

Munnerlyn, Brinkley, Norwood, Wharton..

How many out of Clemson...ever... 0.

It's hard to fathom. I mean they hardly sign any after the fact either. I'm telling u there has got to be a personnel guy or scout guy in their camp that has ties with USuCk. I mean it's not out of the scope of reality. And they are the only fan base that are so dense to let their jealousy of their rival trump success in their business.

but yes teams do care what school a player went to. It does not usually affect their decisions but in this case its certainly a weird coincidence that for 20 years they have not chosen one player from a major school that is very close to them

What is weird is fans thinking there is some sort of conspiracy by a team to hurt itself because these fans are so biased toward their school's players.

Clemson decidedly beat that team in a BCS Orange Bowl.
OSU went on to win it all the next year.
They came close to getting in last year.

Bama, Clemson, and OSU had 28% of the first 2 rounds. It matters.

Seriously?? So you're saying that in the last 20 years of the NFL football draft, there has not been ONE Clemson football player that was the right fit for the so called "Carolina" team? If u choose to believe that, then have fun pulling for your Panthers. We don't need favors from the Panther's, that's for sure. But don't expect this Clemson fan to ever pull for the "Carolina" team.
