The irony of the ACC Network for tiger fans

Aug 11, 2019, 4:53 PM

Because of our following and how good we are I believe every one of our football games has been televised either on tv or WatchESPN. Now because of this new network many tiger fans will have to pay more or change providers to see games that would not have been an issue last year.
I get that the network should make our program more money.

Outside of maybe a directional school type game

Aug 11, 2019, 5:29 PM

This one is the only time Clemson will play on the acc network. How often is Alabama on the sec network? Same situation. It will be filled with the nc states of the world.

Exactly right!

Clemson will likely only make it on ACCN when we play an FCS opponent. But, they need a big splash, who better than the last national champion to do that?

Probably so, most of the time. But I see opening weekend SEC night game is UGA vs Vandy. So I could see ACCN doing the same to us - featuring us vs an ACC beatdown opponent. But definitely the 12n kickoffs vs FCS or mid-major type opponents could end up on ACCN. IMHO

The real benefit is more basketball, a lot more baseball,

and women's softball. Plus, there should be shows like "ACC Stories" similar to the SEC Stories you see on the SECN.

Why would we have to pay more?

Aug 11, 2019, 11:14 PM

Let's say you are on Dish, and they don't pony up! If you don't want to stream, switch to DirecTV and get a cheaper rate as a new customer! Maybe you are on Spectrum and paying $200 per month, because you have 4 or 5 TVs. Switch to YouTube TV, have up to six devices for $50 per month! I don't see many scenarios that would cause you to pay more, to get the ACC network.

There are way too many folks paying way too much for TV. Right now, I have YouTube TV AND DirecTV, and my total cost is $81 per month!

Geville Tiger on Clemson football , "Dabo's only problem is he has to deal with turd fans questioning every move he makes.”

Well, I dropped Directv for other reasons than JUST the ACCN. Mainly $$$$$$$$$$.

I went Roku, and YouTube TV. I even bought a 3-pack Google Mesh (pre-owned) to boost my wifi.

I'm old, and even though I was extremely technical for 40+ years in business, I have been struggling while setting it all up for almost an entire week. Not necessarily to allow me to be able to use it easily, but for my wife to watch without a constant barrage of questions for months. I'm almost there now, and happy with my decision to stream.

I'm not certain how this will affect my internet usage though, and how much my internet costs will increase since I am with AT&T and get discounts currently for having Directv bundled with that. I told the Directv guy that I will address that issue once they increase my rate, and will be looking to return to Charter/Spectrum for internet if I see a large increase. That ended his argument for my keeping Directv.

I expect to watch the ACC Network weekdays

Aug 12, 2019, 8:31 AM

Saturdays in the fall are already pretty full for me but I expect to enjoy the ACC programming M-F on XM radio and on my cable.

But I also know I'm unlikely to suddenly want to watch sports on TV that I rarely or never see in person. I get an assortment of ESPN networks and the SEC deal and much of the time they are simply unwatchable. I suspect all conference networks to deliver smaller paydays in the future.

ACC Network Conspiracy

Aug 12, 2019, 8:34 AM

With all the talk of dwindling season ticket sales and attendance at ACC games, the ACCN not being carried by cable companies is a new way to get fans in the seats.

2024 white level member flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Your worry is way overblown

Aug 12, 2019, 8:59 AM

ESPN isn’t going to give up Clemson games from their main channels to put on ACCN. The only ones that might be affected are games like Charlotte and Wofford. And that might also mean those games get shifted to 3:30/6:00 instead of nooners.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

The majority of our games will not be relegated to the ACCN

Aug 12, 2019, 9:07 AM

Also, it's easier than ever to ditch cable/satellite and switch to a provider (even if it's a streaming service) that will carry ACCN this year. If you have an internet connection you can get ACCN.

Football is MOST IMPORTANT

Aug 12, 2019, 10:28 AM

but there are lots of other sports and special interest programs you will miss out on.

BOTTOM LINE - It means much more money.

To paraphrase Dabo - ACC teams will go from playing 9 on 11 to playing 11 on 11!
