Our Stadium Screen....

Am I the only one who would rather it not be Gigantic? I think the size of it now is pretty much perfect. I think it fits in nicely with the Hill and as long as they dont fill it up with advertisements it will be great. I think the addition of the two in the West Endzone will look great also.
I think the massive screens that some stadiums are putting up almost take away from the stadium experience instead of adding to it. These monstrosities also tend to have issues with viewing angles.

Everyone knows Sammy is so fast that the screen will look blurry to him while he's running.

I think you're right

I went to some games at Mississippi State a few years ago right after they installed what was then the largest HD stadium screen in existence. The picture quality was breathtaking, but I did find my attention drawn to the screen more than I wanted. And of course, with a screen that big came a whole lot of commercials...

That's the difference between WB and the Valley. No knock on them, but WB isn't a historic stadium and honestly they didn't start caring about the exterior appearance until the last 5 or so years. A large screen won't take away from the experience there.
Memorial Stadium is beautiful, its historic and its most significant feature is directly in front of the screen. the larger the screen is, the smaller the hill looks. We don't want that, we don't want those awesome ESPN angles of us running the hill flooded with the artificial light from some large screen.
The way the AD has handled the renovations to the Valley have been spot on. It amazes me how much it has changed since I was a boy, but I can look back now and say I am just as proud, if not more, of our home now as I was 10 years ago.
If you think we need a bigger board then look up the stadiums that have (or are building) these massive screens...I think you'll change your mind.
Examples: (Arky, Miss St, USCe, Texas A&M)

I think there was absolutely need for improvement

I'm sure people said things very similar to what you posted when the first "Pawvision" appeared above the old West End Zone stands.
The most recent bigscreen that we had had a very poor picture, and even worse sound. While I don't think it needs to be huge, I don't think the size will take away from the experience as the screen as a whole likely won't be much bigger than the structure was last year.
I think the biggest need was for the smaller screens on the West End Zone side, since some of the corner upper deck seats have an obscured vision of the hill and scoreboard due to the in-stadium trees.
I, for one, am really optimistic about this change, and trust the administration to make them in a way that is aesthetically pleasing, much like they've done for the last 10 or so years.
In response to your one comment that "we don't want those awesome ESPN angles of us running the hill flooded with artificial light from some large screen," we'd have to have a night game before that would ever be a problem, and Death Valley never has night games

(link to finished board) I just got back from Iowa State....

And their screen was MASSIVE. It was also in stark contrast to their 55,000 person stadium. It looked as big as one of their upper decks honestly. I didn't like it.
I'm all for a bigger screen as long as it's tastefully done and fits in with the existing stadium. From the pictures I've seen so far, it doesn't seem a whole lot bigger than the previous one, just wider within the confines of the still existing brick structure there. And it'll be nice to have better resolution and better viewing angles for people more off to the side.
Here's a link to the finished board. I'm ready to see it for myself at Orange and White.

It will be bigger due to the ads being removed off of the screen... that is if they do in fact keep ads. off like they said they would.

But here's the most important question...

Is the tiger still going to be peeking over the top of the new board, and when we score will his eyes still light up and his tail wag? If not, then BOOOOOOOOO!!!

probably from a poster on here, that they removed the tiger to have it cleaned up and repainted, and that it will be returned to its rightful place in time for the first home game.

a stadium attached to your video screen. Also, think about South Carolina's 1969 ACC championship sign. That thing is way oversized. Now our conference championship signs are the perfect size, but just need to be more visible, not on a mesh background that doesn't show up.
You are right, the video screen is perfect size. I hope they don't oversize the screens on the West end.

handicap sections to both sides of the screen. Close it in a little more. About equal to what was put in the outfield at Doug Kingsmore. It puts all the fous on the entry point between the brick pillars under the scoreboard to nayone looking into the valley from the road.
