I have to admit though, that poor special teams play probably cost us a third title.
Agree that special teams is 1/3 of the overall game, but usually gets much less attention than the other 2/3rds.

We don’t receive many kickoffs because we don’t give up many points. The huge majority of our kickoffs are not returnable. Our punting isn’t great, but returns against our punting are rare. Not sure I’ve seen enough field goal attempts to know where we stand. I’m not worried about our special teams.

on special teams than we have been in a long time. Potter’s leg is a real weapon. Punting, while not stellar is better. We aren’t returning many kicks, but we are capable of breaking KO or punt. I like special teams this year.

Saw that, too. Not sure how that ranking is configured...
Kickoff team is excellent
Kickoff return team slightly above average
FG team slightly above average
Punt team below average but better than last year
Punt return team FCs too often and gives up lots of long punts
Not sure how that computes to 93rd unless Punting Yards Against is the primary component. We get outpunted by an avg Etienne run on every exchange of punts.

Between the A&M punter (last years Ray Guy Award winner) and Syracuse's punter with a 50+ yard average on who knows how many attempts, our punt return team looks awful on paper. It is above average and potentially dangerous if we needed it to be. Why take chances when you have our offense?

Just looked it up. Punt defense Clemson is #6 . Kickoff defense Clemson is #10. Those numbers are what really matter. We fair catch and try not to fumble so those numbers are down by design. We can do better pinning teams deep on punts. Bring back the coffin corner kick.

Key is to not make mistakes, and I think Dabos staff has corrected that. Would like to have better punting, but it’s good enough. Really happy to not be scared about muffs and fumbles on kick returns, and I think coverage on kicks and punts has been solid.
Mayb3 5he low ranking is due to lots of fair catches?
