How would you handle his free agency? Is he worth 6 years of more at more than 22 million a season? We all know what he brings to the table with his glove and intangibles. He’s a great leader and clubhouse presence. Do you give him the bag knowing he’s had only one offensive year like last season? Or do you sign a cheaper veteran and work Grissom in slowly at short?

If that turns out to be true, somebody (or several somebody's) will be on their way out and that could include Swanson. The team would also need to find someone to take part of Ozuna's contract.
That said, I'm not sure I'm buying this rumor. The Braves have never paid anywhere close to DeGrom's $40 million per year market value. I think the highest the team has ever paid a player in a single season was $23 million and that was Josh Donaldson.
The deal, if true, would be for 2 years with player opt-out after year one similar to the deal Carlos Carrera signed last year with the Twins, but again, I'm not buying it.

Similar scenario when Wheeler who is from Marietta and a FA the Braves passed on him only to watch him become a star for Philly. I don't see the Braves paying DeGrom's market value either. More likely to sign a vet or two to a short-term deal for less. Not happy that the Braves gave Morton another contract at all especially one that vastly overpays him. He was awful for most of the season and the post season. The only problem I have with Swanson is he is an automatic out for huge stretches at a time. I would go all out to sign him or Turner. Grissom hasn't done it for long enough and Ozzie is very injury prone. Can't go into 23 with that being your middle infield.

If I had my choice it would be Turner. But he’s going to cost too much. Defense isn’t as good but he won’t have the huge slumps Swanson has like you mentioned. I love Morton but he was awful last year. I was shocked too when they gave him another 20 million. They’ve got nice depth with the starting pitching so they don’t really have to sign anyone.

If you could sign him for six years at 22 million a year, it would be a no brainer IMO.

I think you’re right. He’s so valuable to the franchise in many ways. They want to be a top 5 payroll, so it won’t be an issue. Does that make Grissom trade bait?
On Jacob deGrom, 2 years 80 million? He’s a 40-45 million dollar man. His inability to stay healthy is scary. Would love to stick it to the Mets though.
How do you move Ozuna? I doubt Boston would do it, but package Grissom and other prospects with Ozuna for Story. If you don’t retain Dansby. Story didn’t exactly live up to his contract in his first year in Boston. Maybe he’s an NL guy. Just spitballing.

Correa and Turner will be closer to the $30m/year mark. That will scare off liberty. If the Freeman fiasco proved nothing else is that AA will not budge or wont' be allowed to budge. I suspect the Braves to offer $23.5M/yr for 6 or $25M/yr for 5. One thing to note, while there are other offensively potent SS available, next year defense becomes a higher priority as the shift is gone. Dansby, is by far the better defender and his range and arm will be an even bigger asset next season.
