Does it seem to anyone else that Urban

Dec 16, 2021, 5:56 PM

Meyer hasn't been "all there" since he took over in Jax? Kinda reminds me of Biden trying to figure out what his job is and how to do it.

Not many coaches successfully make the transition from college to the NFL, but he seems like he had some wires up there that just weren't connected or shorted out.

I just read a timeline of his time with Jax and it's just weird.

We felt that way before Jax. He seemed kind of medicated and lethargic at Oh St

Oscar Meyer was arrogant enough to think that he was FAR

Dec 16, 2021, 6:08 PM

above all those other former college coaches who previously struggled while trying to make that transition. HE wouldn't have any issues being successful, because he was by God Urban MEYER. Those spoiled brat pro football players would Gee when he said Gee, and Haw when he said HAW. He would run his franchise like an Iron Fisted Dictatorship. Just like a certain poster on here, he DEMANDED RESPECT. Never mind that he hadn't earned any.

He certainly managed to sell that bill of goods to the Jags owner, Khan. Butt, just like Capn. James T. Kirk made Khan crash and burn at the end, Meyer did it to THIS Khan, even quicker.

In the end, stabbing from Heyall's Heart, THIS Khan was able to take out Meyer. Only time will tell if the Jags can ever recover from the damage done. Here's hoping Trevor can help get them past all this sordid junk, and go into the off-season on some kind of positive note.

I never knew what to believe concerning him. I do know he put his self in a bad situation at that bar but other than that did not know why people hated on him so bad. You guys probably know more about it I guess. The media puts its spin on it and I am at a loss on that guy. I knew he was taking over a crappy team and I had zero expectations from them. I honestly was surprised they won a game.

Almost appears he's been trying to get fired.

Speaking of medicated and lethargic made me think of him leaving Florida over his health. I never understood that seeing he landed with OSU soon after.

I think 'trying to get fired' is EXACTLY what he was doing. Kinda of a sneaky retirement package for he and his family. He saw he wasn't cut out for the NFL and quit in a way that netted him the most money.

Other coaches have said that the transition from college to professional is as hard for the coaches as it is for the players.

Meyer didn't seem to have a problem compelling excellence from his players or assistants, but he had a hard time demanding it of himself. It's true that he didn't have much to work with, but you have to keep motivating the good performances, not going off on bad ones. It seems like every bad performance became an opportunity for Meyer to become a drama queen, and even Trevor got tired of it.

The toughest aspect (or so I would guess) is treating professionals with respect, especially when the personnel limitations require you to use less-than-ideal players for certain situations. The #1 RB fumbles, so you bench him in spite of the fact that your QB asked you to put him back in. Then the #2 RB fumbles, but he goes right back in while #1 waits in the Meyer doghouse. You don't have a #3 RB.

You won't let your 6'5" QB (whose athleticism impressed you vs. Ohio St) run a QB sneak on 4th down, but the RB gets stuffed. When asked by the media, instead of taking the blame for being too smart, you say the QB wasn't prepared to run a sneak.(???!)

In pro sports, the margin in skill between the best and worst is smaller than in college (except for the very elite, which didn'trefer to anyone on the Jags roster). The difference is in the execution, and the planning, and the organization--all the things we call Teamwork. If your coach has an agenda other than winning, those big, fast, hard-hitting grown-@ss men will not give you their trust, and the Team will fail.

I truly believe the team tanked on purpose to get him out

Dec 16, 2021, 9:49 PM

In a very PC way Trevor said he needed to go. He had zero respect from players and he surely had none for them. The writing was on the wall and it was clear to everyone there was no future with Mayer in control.

I like Urban Meyer, but I believe his problems

are mental and have been so even back into his time at Florida, possibly earlier.

He's a young fellow to me, but it's probably time he hung his coaching hat up for good and look for some inner peace.

I wish him well.
