Originally Being from town near ECU & knowing Pirates FB...

May 11, 2017, 10:49 AM

What do you think of their program, their playing SC (again) and Clemson in future.

They do love their Football, BBQ, Brunswick Stew, growing Tobacco, Licquor, horses, the coast & pretty Wimmens..

So does that get them any brownie points?

I don't see it ever happening, but would actually love a home/home with ECU as it's only about an hour from me. They do have some pretty good, realistic fans who don't get under my skin.

I like football, Brunswick Stew, BBQ, chewing tobacco, fast horses and wimmens, and the coast.

Does that get me any points? Not with my wife.

ECU has a good fan base and they love their football team

May 11, 2017, 10:59 AM

I wouldn't be opposed to a Home/Home series but I don't see it happening.

I pull for ECU from time to time bc they are so close to me and a lot of my friends and co-workers are ECU alum.

I pull for them everytime they play SC and UNC and NCSU

ECU is one of the most solid midmajor teams and if the ACC didn't already have 4 NC teams I'd vote to take them. Like you said they love their football and have a pretty good tailgating scene, plus a cool mascot and colors. I'm all for playing them home and away.

Just like all the other North Carolina teams, South Carolina will not play them at their home stadium. They must play the coots in Columbia but ECU, North Carolina, and N.C. State have to play their games in Charlotte and not their home stadium. Big advantage to the coots. Can't believe those N.C. teams can't see through that.

UNC and NC State definitely play at ECU. Virginia Tech goes

May 11, 2017, 12:31 PM

there as well. It's just South Carolina that won't do it.

Let's put it this way....

May 11, 2017, 11:55 AM

the North Carolina legislature LITERALLY had to force unc and NCSt to play ECU in football....and both teams soon regretted it.....

I think the Pirates biggest problem is that every time they find a good coach who's building a program, some bigger school scoops him up.....no long-term continuity

I thought Ruffin McNeil was doing a solid job....

Until they fired/pushed him out the door.....

I thought McNeil was doing ok as well. But then they pushed Steve Logan out who may have been the best coach they ever had. Was the coach for the best Bowl I ever saw 2001, ECU with David Garrard vs Marshall with Byron Leftwich. ECU was up at half like 35-3, Game ended in a double OT I believe. No defense but heck of an entertaining game.

If there was a program like ECU in my area, I would definitely catch games regularly. A number of years ago, I spent a weekend at ECU. They played WVA that weekend. I had a great time, although I don't remember anything about the game due to too much tailgating. :)

Unfortunately, the local program in my area is Maryland. I don't like that program, the campus, or the community, so I do not go to their games.

Sometimes the road to the truth is so elusive it's confusing and reality becomes illusion.

What town are you originally from? I'm from Williamston, NC. It's a little town about 30 miles north of ECU

ECU always has potential to beat the big boys ...

You are so right about OBX. We are thinking of buying another property, and looking at OBX. A friend wantediluvian to come visit, said "We could get a beach house at OBX or Myrtle." My reply was, are you kidding me? That is like comparing Vegas and the South of the Border Poker Machine/Truck Stops.
