they looked like someone had tried them on, walked outside in the parking lot, and decided they weren't for them...essentially brand new w/ some concrete 'granules' on the soles.
an REI employee basically confirmed that if someone takes them outside like that, they can't restock them w/ the 'new' stuff, so they got thrown in the 'garage sale' pile, as if they were a return

shoes or CC runners a few years ago. Of course I'm not hauling a pack because old and I like beds.
