Onside kick was touched at 49 and a half yard line

Jan 12, 2016, 9:45 AM

Foot came down across the 50.

Look at the tape and see for yourself if that's right.

I'm pretty sure that's what I saw.

I think that is what I saw too. I'm not sure they would have been able to determine that during live action though. Also, it wouldn't have made any difference in the outcome of that series most likely...

Jan 12, 2016, 9:51 AM

uhhh, except that we would have had the ball at the 49, that was potentially a 14 point swing.

badge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

It was kicked from the 35. So 14 yards is plenty.***

So send it to the NCAA and see if they'll put an asterisk by

Jan 12, 2016, 9:47 AM

Bama's win and send us a trophy too.

No? The let's drop it, K? Sheet happens, there were at least three mistakes WE made that gave up touchdowns - we fix those, we win.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Why don't you move on and quit telling people what they

Jan 12, 2016, 9:56 AM

should and should not post? Don't like a post, just ignore it.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Because we're Clemson, and we're better than that.

Jan 12, 2016, 10:00 AM

That's why. Sour grapes over officiating when we give away 2-3 touchdowns all by ourselves.

We need to work hard on special teams.Do we have a special teams coach or is
it coached by committee?

The ball only has to go past the 45, because its kicked from the 35. Not sure what your talking about.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Giving away 6 points on that kick off return is what cost us

Jan 12, 2016, 9:48 AM

Not that.

There's something in these hills.

Don't forget about the 14 points we gave up because we couldn't cover #88.***

And a very short field from an INT. That's what I'm saying..

Jan 12, 2016, 10:24 AM

officiating did not cost us that game. We had Bama on the ropes and let them off with miscues. It happens... like I said in another post, Bama was just one mistake not made better than we were last night.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Can't ever blame that on this board

Jan 12, 2016, 10:28 AM

Field position isn't a thing. Our offense is perfect, and our defense needs to stop the other team no matter how often they get the ball or how far on our side of the field they are when they get it.

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Move on... that was as gutsy a call as I have seen.

Jan 12, 2016, 9:49 AM

says something about what Saban thought about the "flow" of game. It was close call but it was well executed.

Again, our Special Teams let us down. No way ever, should we have gotten pinched in so tight on that kick off. You never let a guy get on the outside of you.

Kicko offs and coverage have been horrible all year. We need Beamer to coach special teams

Re: Onside kick was touched at 49 and a half yard line

Jan 12, 2016, 9:58 AM

And why would that matter?

The ball is kicked from the 35....

That would be 14.5 yards 14.5 > 10

BALL NEVER TOUCHED THE GROUND

Jan 12, 2016, 10:00 AM

before Bama grabbed it ... Correct me if I'm wrong ... I thought it had to touch the ground and go ten yards ....

An onside kick just has to go 10 yards before the kicking team can touch it...

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: BALL NEVER TOUCHED THE GROUND

Jan 12, 2016, 10:11 AM

If a player does not call fair catch.

it isnt that straight forward as just going 10 yards.

If it hits the ground it is a live ball fair catch and all that goes out the window. Your kick never hit the ground.

Re: BALL NEVER TOUCHED THE GROUND

Jan 12, 2016, 10:28 AM

This is the rule on "Touching and Receiving a Free Kick"

1. It touches a team b player (Exception: Rules 6-1-4 and 6-5-1-b);
2. It breaks the plane of and remains beyond team b’s restraining line (Exception: Rule 6-4-1) (A.R. 2-12-5-I); or
3. It touches any player, the ground, an official or anything beyond team b’s restraining line.

Thereafter, all players of team a become eligible to touch, recover or catch the kick.

The "plane" is ten yards from the point of kick. "Team B" is the receiving team. Note that there is no requirement that the ball touch the ground, but it is immediately live, if it does...

Re: BALL NEVER TOUCHED THE GROUND

Jan 12, 2016, 10:15 AM [ in reply to Re: BALL NEVER TOUCHED THE GROUND ]

And the receiving team can call a fair catch if its in the air. Same as on a punt. That's why you see most teams kick/bounce it off the ground first.

???? so it went 14.5 yards....only has to go 10....

Re: Onside kick was touched at 49 and a half yard line

Jan 12, 2016, 10:20 AM

I'm not sure we should complain about an on side kick. Whether UNC got hosed on that call in the ACCCG or not-I have never heard the explanation for the call. We gave up 23 points in the 4th quarter and a KO return for a TD just after we closed the gap to 4 points. Bama won, we lost. Just to cushion the blow a little-Bama was 0-11 in bowl games when they gave up more than 30 points. We were the first team to hang more than 30 and lose. We didn't get it done.
