Dabo Swinney's overlooked talent

Jun 13, 2015, 1:41 PM

It's rarely discussed among the talk of his ability as a master recruiter and "cheerleader" coaching style, but Dabo is a master organizer. We hear it every time that Clemson holds a camp or hosts an official visit, but events like these, the All In Cookout, etc are all extremely well run and smooth - no wasted time and everybody is in the right place. Definitely an underrated quality given the limits on practice time set by the NCAA.

another attribute of being a great coach.***

I think the most important period for Dabo's legacy as a

Jun 13, 2015, 2:06 PM

"coach" starts this year, right or wrong.

I think the narrative on his legacy has gone from "He's a great recruiter and cheerleader" to "He's a great recruiter and cheerleader but has been successful mostly because of Chad Morris" to "Let's see how he does without Morris."

While I think he's given much too little credit for getting the program to where it is now, the outside narrative is going to be shaped by the next 3-4 years IMO.

If it wasn't for our Defense last year we would have only won 7 games

Brad Brownell: more losses than any other coach in school history.

If we didn't have a defense I don't think we would have won any games.

Still think we would have beaten the coots...

You're right if we didn't play so well we might have been 0-12

So - did his legacy begin with last years' bowl game? We beat OU like a drum without Morris.

Just messing with ya' - :)

1st - it was Chad's offense, not Dabo...

Now - anyone could win with Watson...

The dumpers/coots/cootposers will have some bullchit excuse for Dabo's success.

Pretty good for college football's 38th best coach !

Jun 14, 2015, 1:39 PM

Athlon and it's garbage rankings. In reality Dabo runs rings around 98% of the other head coaches.

Plus he's a helluva football coach.

Jun 14, 2015, 2:40 PM

He's played and coached most of his life. He understands X & Os just fine, AND he handles all other matters in a top notch way as well.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I think he probably has some great administrators

Jun 14, 2015, 3:47 PM

and assistants who plan the events as well.

Don't forget those who work tirelessly behind the scenes to make it happen.

One of the most underrated attributes of a leader

Jun 14, 2015, 4:16 PM

is the ability to convey a clear vision and getting out of the way of your subordinates when they implement it.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

He's a freakin MBA.

Jun 14, 2015, 4:25 PM

He doesn't take his job home with him, it's there waiting on him.

Re: Dabo Swinney's overlooked talent

Jun 14, 2015, 9:44 PM

Dabo doesn't recruit talent. Nor does any of his coaches. They all recruit Clemson. A talent that doesn't like class and thinks they are bigger than the team don't fit in the Clemson system. We have athletes that are great character young men that honor their commitment as student ambassadors of Clemson that happen to have the skill to play college football at a high level! I like the way Coach recruits and I hope he never goes away from it.
