Once again Clemson gets the best…

Jan 8, 2022, 4:10 PM

QB in the nation. Third time since 2014. Those QBs have something in common. Know what that is?

Fourth time - DW4, TL16, DJ5, and CK6. DJ was a #1 QB too and he is better than he has shown this year. Still crazy to think about the Bosco-Mater Dei matchups with Bryce Young and DJ and him always being the better player and now he is nearly last in college football and Young takes home the Heisman. Something is not right with DJ right now but he has it in him to be not only good but great.

Good for you DownhillDefender®having the courage to state an opinion that is unpopular to many of TNet's football 'experts.'

DJU clearly doesn't have either the 'ready to go straight out of HS' awareness skills or the deceptive nuances (such as not staring down the primary receiver) that other HS QBs coming into the college game already possess.

But DJU's better play as the 2021 season progressed proves that DJU is receptive to good coaching, and is willing to put in the work to improve.

DJU may well develop into a fantastic college QB ... with some good fortune, that will happen by the start of the 2022 season.

I’m sorry but I think you are just totally wrong.

Even last year he had very obvious flaws in his game. There was more talent around him and we were a better team and they were able to overcome his flaws. At times he struggled to simply make a handoff. Remember the two touchdowns involving ETN?

Go back and watch our games this year. Listen to the commentators that played in the NFL as quarterback. They were very critical of his game in ways that had nothing to do with other players or coaching. He’s a bust. He was overrated. He did great at high school because he was big and strong and had a lot of talent around him and great coaching. Even the experts in the NFL get it wrong all the time. Most first round draft picks don’t become stars.

And there’s a huge difference in performing well coming off the bench and being the starter. Especially at this level. That’s an age old story in college and the NFL.

Saving this post for later. I think them just writing him off as a bust and a bad player is a lazy take. The kid has talent and that can't be disputed. People want to knock him for what he isn't. He is not a dual threat QB and not good at evading pressure from the pocket but the arm talent is there or he wouldn't draw such a following. He lacks confidence and anticipation which are very coachable traits. He doesn't trust the 50 50 plays to be there and doesn't put they ball up ahead of time and that is one of the biggest differences between HS and college for DJ. Arm talent is otherworldly though. I think he can be coached up to his Heisman favorite level potential.

before, we really did DJ a disservice by recruiting him. He does NOT fit our system, since he could not by any stretch of the imagination be considered a "dual threat" QB. When he runs, he is like a boat trying to take off while still anchored to the dock.

His physical gifts are size and arm strength. Since I do not believe we intended to change our game to a pro style attack, that is why I say we did him a disservice by recruiting him, and he by accepting our offer. Additionally, we do not have an offensive line capable of blocking for a pocket anchored passer over the course of a game or season.

The rating services differentiate between "Pro Style" and "Dual Threat" QBs for very good reasons.

Agree... He was picked by Dabo because he was the Top Guy.. what has Big Cinco had to say lately...THAT will be the story...surprised it has not surfaced already...

Agree 100%.

He is absolutely terrible at running the RPO which is our base offense. He can’t even execute very well a simple pitch sweep. Heck a lot of times he struggles just handing the ball off. Remember what happened last year with ETN. Not once but twice?!

He is a pocket passer. That is not our offense.

I also think he does well coming off the bench but maybe doesn’t handle the pressure being the starter. There are a lot of extremely talented quarterbacks in the NFL that look like Super Bowl winners coming off the bench, but are epic failures when they are the starter.

Love his ability to escape and make a play. His speed and looking down field as he runs is something great teams have to have. Saban has moved and adjusted to this type of QB after we beat his butt. Sign of a good coach. How someone thought the speed of DJ could work out to be an elite QB I will never know. Maybe this was a covid thing where did not get a chance to see him in person. Hate it for DJ but we can not compete on an elite level with him. After seeing DJ the other teams could not wait to play us. Before that they had fear on their face when they lined up to play us

They taste great! You see our team responds to adversity of a rare off season by rallying around one another in the post season and balling out with no opt outs.

That’s the output of a winning culture. That’s what it looks like.

Compare that to the Dawgs who have a history of soiling the bed when it just…doesn’t mean more..??
See your 2019 Sugar bowl performance(and that of your inbred 4-legged mascot who was almost impailed)for reference.

I swear got to keep hitting you dawgs on the nose to get you to be quiet. September 17 1977 (The Big Bang !) Clemson 7 #17 dawgs 6 between the hedges as Clemson began its journey to its first but "cough cough " not its last National Championship in 1981.
