11/3/1979
Clemson, SC

CLEMSON, S.C., Nov. 3 (AP) —Clemson's veteran defense intercepted three Wake Forest passes — one was returned 17 yards by Jeff Davis for a touchdown — as the Tigers upset the Deacons, 31?0, in an Atlantic Coast Conference game today.

Chuck?McSwain?had scoring runs of 10 and 1 yards, the latter set up by an interception. The Clemson quarterback, Billy Lott, passed 10 yards to Perry Tuttle for a touchdown after Terry Kinard had intercepted another pass and returned it 31 yards.

McSwain's second score came after Eddie Geathers ran 43 yards to the 1?yard line with an interception of pass by the Wake Forest quarterback, Jay Venuto.

The victory gave Clemson the same A.C.C. won?lost record, 3?2, as the Deacons. Clemson is 6?2 over all, while Wake Forest dropped to 7?2.

Lott mixed running plays with deft passing. He occasionally ran the ball himself, gaining 33 yards in the fiveplay, 72?yard drive that ended with McSwain's first touchdown.

Best Is The Standard

Danny always seemed to have a stable of big, rangy running

backs. Three yards and a Cloud of Dust, and nothing much the opposition could do about it.

Oh, how we used to complain about the "lack of imagination" in the offense back then.

Butt, nobody complained about the winning! :)

Also beat Wake Forest on November 3 five years later in 1984 at home, 37-14. That was the game where the Wake punter kicked the ball into the back of one of his team's players that Fridge was pushing back.

Be nice if the Tigers can beat Wake in a few weeks.
