Blues for others

Aug 17, 2022, 8:02 PM

Folks like JLH or they don't.
I am a fan.
He is unique.

I remember a BB King interview after doing an album where every song was a duet of "the famous" joining him for a tune.

BB said something like, " John has one style, either you do his style or he is out.".

JLH is not my fav, but I do play him the most.

Do you have some outdoor speakers on the river?

Not like one would think.
I have a "high end" audio system designed to play to my chair not the yard. It has taken years of trial and error to achive great sound on the porch. My tune collection is just tunes I like, so thousands.

There are so many great blues & blues rock guitarists...

I couldn't begin to pick a favorite! But a young, local guy who sure gets my attention is Greenville's Marcus King!

Saw BB live once. Without peer. I've played most of his stuff many times. I always want him to play more notes which he could but he knows how to get in that pocket and leave you wanting more. That is the mark of a great artist.

I have been often to his club in Nashville but he was never there.
Lucille is about the most famous guitar in the world.
BB can make one note sing forever.
Other styles are to hit it and move on.

Little Red Rooster is a great Howlin tune. Check out Gatemouth Brown if you haven’t already

Best Stringer

Aug 17, 2022, 8:44 PM

I luv Tnet as I can post about w tf and someone here will join in.
Here is my fav Blues Stringer -
After years of it all, seems to me that Albert King is the best Blues Stringer ever.
Is he the best ever of any genre with a guitar?

Wow! What great memories. Fortunate to see B.B. King, Albert King, Buddy Guy, Muddy Waters, Howlin' Wolf, Clapton, and others so many times.

Saw BB and Albert @ Harrah's Tahoe in a venue that seated

Aug 22, 2022, 1:37 PM

maybe 150 in '76... Front row table. Won't ever forget.

Saw John Lee and Willie Dixon in ATL @ Richard's in April '73... One of the best "coups" I EVER pulled. Spoke to the security guard, waved at the ticket window, handed the bouncer a $20 spot and walked in like We owned it. Sat on the corner of the main bar opposite the stage for both the 8PM and 12AM shows... Drank free all night. They ran everybody out after the first show except for my buddy and I... Walked out that night with the security guard, the bouncer, and the asst. manager who had been serving me the Jack D about 5AM...

I think it was probably the long hair, the custom wide-wale bell bottoms, and the 'Rod Stewart' high-heeled leather boots that made them think we were with the bands... It was never discussed.

My buddy was 16... I was 15.
