Does anyone know why they have t torn down the old Student Union? That place has looked rough for a long time.

Glad to hear it. Hopefully that also includes moving the motor pool out of that area as well. That area is prime campus real estate and should developed into something special.

Yeah, that is good news. There must be some reason why it hasn’t been done yet. That’s the center of campus and they have spent a ton everywhere else. Wonder what they tell people on a campus tour.

is to not have any parking and limit vehicles in the core campus. They actually removed some streets since I’ve been there. I doubt it will be used for cars. Not a money maker.

I saw this a while back. I guess I was just trying to figure out why it took so long. It has been a major eyesore for a while. Maybe it’s contaminated and will cost a fortune to clean up the site?

Maybe you saw a different article. The one linked specifically said there would be a 2 year demolition plan. So, it will still be a mess this time next year, at least, per their plan.

at least to a certain extent, but the plan is demolish it over the next couple of years. Once it has been demolished, an expansive green space is supposed to take its place (about 8 acres). Those facilities and organizations still occupying the old union (e.g., mail service, student government and ROTC) will eventually be moved to Core.

This sounds like terrible planning…….exactly where is a 21st century Tiger supposed to get a grilled cheese sandwich now? This administration is risking full scale riots and Marshal Law.
