Okay, so can we call the officials and get them to retro-act

Apr 13, 2013, 12:28 PM

ively reverse that pass int call against us in the Usuc game since we saw it on tv and had more information than people who were there and had responsibility to make the call.

Really PGA tour, you let viewers call in rules violations?

And don't get me started on the 'incorrect scorecard' nonsense. It's not like you can't just erase it and fix it. Dang, peoples is stupid sometime.

I think that's a ridiculous thing golf snobs like to say.

Golf does not have any more "integrity" than any other sport. It's driven by money, just like all the others. Golf people sometimes like to pretend they're better than other people.

you miss the point.

In golf the players generally police themselves on the rules. In other sports even if the offical calls a violation the player tries to argue their way out of it. they never admit to trapping the ball or stepping out of bounds. Officals are there to catch violations. in golf the officals are there to help explain the correct interpretation if asked but players are empowered to interpret the rules themselves. a golf analogy would be if the batter called balls and strikes on themselves.

agree 100%..the fans play a part as well..it would be easy

Apr 13, 2013, 1:31 PM

to cheat in golf(improve your lie, move a twig),but the fans help deter those factors because they are everywhere.

they do but I have a problem letting tv or in person viewers officiate. I don't get to call fouls in hoops, or balls and stikes in baseball from home or even from the stands. why should I as a fan get to officiate golf? I know a lot about golf but I am not qualified for that

On the other hand, tell me a sport where the player will

Apr 13, 2013, 1:29 PM

call a penalty on himself or have himself disqualified! "O ref, I did a helmet to helmet and was meaning to. Throw me out of the game!" O that was a two pointer, not a three, my toe was on the line!" The integrity of golf is not in the suits organizing the tournaments. It is in the players themselves and the standards they set for themselves. That is why Tigers escapades were felt by the players too! I don't think any other pro sport expects as much from its players and hurts as much when one does something stupid.

exactly - the entire point is being missed by the masses

Apr 13, 2013, 2:37 PM [ in reply to On the other hand, tell me a sport where the player will ]

the problem is not the act and ruling - that a player created an advantage for himself - and admitted it, whether ignorant of the rule or not - and is now hiding behind a committee technicality instead of doing the ethical and proper thing. The point is that the game of golf just got damaged in front of our eyes.

After watching the ugly Masters press conference just now, I feel pretty sure that the media is going to skewer Mr. Woods and the ruling committee over this. I am comforted by one reporter's using the term "dangerous precedent". Whether Tiger and his fan club care or not is an entire other matter, unfortunately.

You obviously do not understand the difference between golf and every other sport. Golfers must call penalties on themselves. Tiger violated the rules and did not call the penalty on himself. He should NOT be playing. Palmer and Nicklaus would would have withdrawn once they realized that they had made a mistake.
