Okay, Pfizer's earnings conference indicates booster...

...is good for Delta. Which is great.
Now here's the thing. I'm kind of iffy on hearing that a booster is great for Delta from the earnings conference of the company that stands to profit from distributing from making it.
Tiggity, CharlestonTiger15, any other learned medical folk about, your inputs?

It's a month-long process though. First dose is basically useless against Delta. VERY minimal protection. Second makes a difference. Second you also feel like crap, which is why it works after two.
Just got back from visiting my fully Pfizer vaccinated barber, who received his second dose back in February. He was out of work last week, with the rona. He said it's bad, and you don't want it. He was back in his N95 mask too. Last two haircuts were maskless. Wasn't hospitalized but he said he got close. Everyone in the house got it too, vaccinated as well.
He still said he'd probably not be around if not for the vaccine. He may be right there. Getting the vaccine and getting sick is better than not getting it, getting sick and dying.

a) I don't care what the technicalities were about filing requirements, the CEO dumping over half his stock the day of the vaccine announcement is shady AF.
b) The mofos laid my wife off (at the time the #1 sales rep in the country for two different drugs) and her entire division weeks after getting the contract for the vaccines and telling them there would be zero layoffs in 2020. #bitter. Lying was a way of life there.
I trust them about as much as a trust josephg® to not post an obscure band's youtube clip this month.

Not exactly a ringing endorsement. And not exactly a secondhand one either.
Alrightee then. I'll stand advised. Which is unfortunate because I have a double dose of the Pfizer vax and any booster I have will need to be Pfizer.

Can you get the Moderna booster with the Pfizer vax or do you have to stick with the line you've got? Any notion?

There’s a great NYT Daily podcast episode from last week about the ethics of a booster band distributing them to countries with no access to vaccines. They sell them for about $19 a dose in the US, and contract for usually less than half that with developing countries.
So is it a greater good to sell them for higher profit to take our protection from say 80% to 90%, or at less profit to help the world get vaccinated?
Interesting discussion.

I’m not really qualified to give a smart answer about this, I’m basically just a plumber for humans. If the virus is still around like I expect it will be in perpetuity, and immunity wanes with time or the vaccine is set up to target a different protein in a variant for example, then yes I would get a booster. I expect it will be offered quite like an annual flu vaccine.

That is interesting. With virtually every spot on the globe in reach of our major airports in short fashion, it would seem that while vaccinating the US population is a good goal, the US needs to spend a lot of the foreign aid money that we dole out, on trying to get most of the world vaccinated too.
Otherwise, new variants seem likely to keep emerging and posing a threat to the world and the US.

window of having covid and had a severe reaction, you won't need a booster.
Will be interesting to see if that's the case after they study it more.
either way I'll be getting the booster. Just in case. COVID put me in the hospital twice in and out of consciousness wondering if that was the last time I'll ever see my wife and kids.
A little booster to keep that from happening again will be greatly welcomed.

different dose, for the booster, I'd probably get it, but won't expect much. 8-10 months is natural immunity. So maybe a booster every 9 months until....
At some point Pfizer needs to pick a variant, and go back to square 1 and reformulate a new vaccine, do the testing and trials, then produce it and manufacture/distribute it. It keeps mutating, but at some point you just have to pick one and make a new vaccine.
If I had to pick one today, it would probably be B.1.617.2.3
