OK, this post is going to make the Bourbon Connie Shores

Dec 29, 2022, 9:34 AM

on the site mad, possibly even angry. I previously posted how I had bought a couple bottles to have on hand for celebratory, or medicinal purposes, as I was recovering from the Covid. My local store had no expensive bottles, thank goodness for that now. I had gotten a Maker's Mark, and an Evan Williams Bottled in Bond.

Well, I broke the seal on the Maker's Mark the other night, and after one sip, I suddenly remembered why I haven't drunk bourbon in over 35 years. That stuff is NASTY! I had somehow made myself forget the taste, but the memory immediately came back after only one sip. My last bourbon had been a bottle of Jim Beam, probably 35 years ago. The taste of the Maker's was pretty much exactly the same nasty taste I remembered.

I can now, unequivocably say, I prefer my liquors clear. Patron Silver Taqwilla, or some good vodka for a Collins, would be infinitely preferable over that nasty tea colored bourbon whiskey stuffs. Sorry I am not a Manly Man, but I now know I would never be able to "acquire" the taste for that particular type of imbibatory alcohol. Oh, the shame of it all.

Bourbon is the nectar of the gods, so now I must question...

As I said in the original post about it, the store I went to

didn't HAVE any higher priced alternatives. They obviously know what their clientele would support. ALL their offerings as far as bourbon were in the ~$30 a bottle or LESS range. TThe Maker's and Evan Williams WERE top of the line, for that store.

Wild Turkey 101 or Knob Creek 9 yr. Are pretty available. Try it with some ginger ale.

Makers isn't crap.

Maybe it isn't top shelf, and it's not my favorite because I'm not big on wheated bourbons, but it's not crap.

If you think it's totally undrinkable...and that's ok, tastes vary...then buying a really expensive bourbon is going to be a waste of money because you will probably hate it too.

Haven't had the EW BIB, but it's probably at least decent just by virtue of being BIB.

Sometimes the road to the truth is so elusive it's confusing and reality becomes illusion.
