What is your opinion of Hulu?

not great. for 50 bucks a month, I'm getting youtube tv which comes with all the espns, acc network, etc. as well as the local fox, cbs, etc. i seem to recall hulu as being the one that required me to go to the fox app and jump through some hoops in order to watch the regional games. that may have been sling, though, which is another provider I grew disenchanted with.

Had Hulu + Live. Switched to YouTubeTV. Ads were infuriating on Hulu. Even paid extra for “no ads,” but the exceptions were many. And couldn’t fast forward past them on “recordings.”
YTTV is like that for On Demand movies, or recordings where movies are still available on demand, but recordings of live shows like sports it lets you FF. Which is nice.

A friend of mine has Hulu and I could use his account sometimes if I really wanted to. I've never bothered to use it. But then again, I don't watch too much TV. I do have a Netflix account and had YTTV during football season. Since there are no live sports right now, I dropped YTTV and my wife uses FUBO TV so she can keep up with all the current events that YTTV did not really offer. As for Hulu, I've never seen anything that I cared about.

Charter Spectrum has a great deal. 400 MB of internet speed 20 mb uploading speed with Charter TV channels and Apple TV and phone service for $149. Guaranteed price for 3 years.

I have had it for 3 months. I very satisfied. You can ESPN, ACC, SEC channels. I have had time to explore all of the channels available to me. I think it’s worth checking out. I can use my Apple TV anywhere.

It’s the best package I have found with so many options. I would do some research before getting Hulu. Also, Spectrum offered to send me a free phone to try their cell phone service for 30 days. And if you change to Spectrum you can do it with the phones you are currently using.

Best of luck in making your decision.

$149 for that is pretty expensive.

May 9, 2020, 8:53 AM

I pay a total of $122 for 500 mb internet(up & down) and YouTube TV. Would only be $102 with 100 mb.

Do you also get a telephone line which I use as a a fax line. Just curious. I heard YouTube had trouble when streaming. I would be interested to know what featured you like and what you would change or improve.

Thank you

As of right now, I only use spectrum for internet with 100 plus MBps download, and 12 MBps upload for about $50 bucks a month. And Spectrum would definitely have to bring their cable price back down before I would ever use their cable TV again bc they are way to proud of it at the present time. But with how fast streaming TV is growing, they will have to bring their prices down, or go belly up!!!

Their new package includes faster internet, Apple TV, a phone line and other channels I did not have before. The phone line is a bonus. Before I changed my package I was paying almost $200 for internet and regular tv.

Re: Considering HULU....what are the pros & cons?

May 9, 2020, 9:13 AM

I tried the HuLu for part of the trial period, and then I tried the youtube next just to see which one I liked the best, and I stuck with youtubetv bc they had the ACCNetwork before Hulu. I don't regret youtubetv bc so far so good and it has all the local stations, but I think that all of the streaming TV has the local channels but, I believe that YouTubeTV has the best of the DVR options, and they have more connections than most of the others!!!

Since I have had YouTubeTV, Spectrum has sent me some pretty good offers to come back to them, but it hasn't been sweet enough for me switch back over for just a year, and they go back to their inflation monthly prices. YouTube has been good for me plus, I have HBO-Cinemax, and Showtime-Starz in a combo package with the Roku App, that is better and cheaper than what YouTubeTV has with their add ons. Plus I have Netflix. I have more TV viewing than I could want, and with it all, it's still $60 bucks less a month than what I was paying spectrum when I cut the cord. If you have good internet, it's IMO that streaming TV is just as good as cable and cheaper without wondering what the cable bill will be each month, and if you've had cable, you know what I'm saying with the cable folks adding something to your bill every month without them asking if you wanted it or not!!! Hope this helps!!!!

OK I'll stand up for HULU

May 9, 2020, 10:46 AM

Had Sling and thought it was better than Dish, which I had for ten years. Problem with Sling was no local channels. When the ACC Network came along, I switched to HULU live. Overall I saved $10/month and got all my local channels. I've been very happy.

Can't make a comparison to YouTube TV since I've never tried it. HULU has worked great for me though.

I figure as long as you are happy with your internet TV package that’s really all that counts. What works for me may not work for someone else.

Those looking for services best of luck finding what works for you.

You Tube

May 9, 2020, 11:12 AM

I had Direct TV Now and had problems with it, plus it didn't have local channels. You Tube has worked perfectly in over the year I've had it. Plus, it has a good library of free movies and shows you can watch anytime, etc.

Re: Considering HULU....what are the pros & cons?

Last 15 years had Comcast and Direct TV, hated them both.

Was hesitant but switched to Youtube Tv and would never go back going on 2nd year with YTTV

Make sure you have ample internet speed and it never buffers. I watch and or record all the clemson football, baseball, softball and basketball games on it no prob.

Just make sure you have a smart tv and all I plug into the wall is the TV AC. One wire... never going back

Re: Considering HULU....what are the pros & cons?

May 9, 2020, 12:10 PM

Had it for about 9 months now....generally satisfied....about $67/month for live TV and their back catalog.

Some adjustment required....you don’t get channel numbers so finding your channel takes a bit of different approach. Platform is different than directv or Comcast, IMO.

It has strange fast-forwarding or reversing restrictions while watching live or DVR programming. Doesn’t apply to most of their stored back catalog.

I tried YouTube and Hulu both....I like the YouTube format slightly better but they didn’t have the same channel lineup exactly....Hulu has History Channel, YTTV has AMC (maybe that has changed since...I don’t know).

Either way...it was ALOT cheaper than directv, which I had been with for years.

My internet is ATT fiber at 100Mbps....usually a bit lower...but does just fine on my big TV, and really nice on iPad, laptop, etc.

Get a trial run, and really use it a lot before you decide.

I have had HULU + Live TV for about 2 months and havent had any trouble. I get the local channels, ESPNs, ACC, SEC, and all the FOX Sports and News channels and basic cable channels. I added STARZ because I like the Western channel. It takes some getting used to since there are no traditional channel numbers but you can setup favorites to speed things up.

2024 white level member flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

The Hulu with ads is pretty cheap

May 9, 2020, 10:44 PM

It has some good stuff. I wouldn’t select it as my only option for streaming.

If you’re adding it to Netflix, it’s pretty good.

There's something in these hills.

I tried it last summer. Had live TV + regular HULU with ads

May 10, 2020, 1:42 PM

My biggest issue at the time was that the interface was atrocious. I don't know if it's gotten any better but that was a huge negative for me. The service also just went down twice the same week for hours. It wasn't an issue on my end either as I found lots of angry people online having the same issue.

Anyway, I've tried Sling, YouTubeTV, and HULU Live and YTTV is just hands down the best.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

i tried both hulu live and youtube tv back in augustion

May 10, 2020, 2:50 PM

ended up sticking with youtube tv. I liked the interface better. it seemed to mimic a cable tv guide moreso than hulu. hulu was building off of their other platform and it wasn't as intuitive to me, or my mom - who I also switched over from cable.

Also, we found in the middle of the hulu live triel that they didn't offer the local ABC channel here in Clemson. Now, I'm sure much of that has changed, but that would have been a deal breaker for me as well.

I'm currently considering the switch, on local cable now....of course I want all the ESPN's and such

But which one YTTV or HULU would carry the Fox Sports needed to carry the Braves when MLB cranks up? I can't seem to get a clear cut answer to that question.

HULU TV has FS1, FS2, FOX Southeast, FOX South, and FOX Carolina. Can't answer for YTTV.
