Ray-Ray McCloud: The Maturing of a Young Star

When Ray-Ray McCloud stepped on campus a little over a year ago, the fans expected him to be an instant superstar. However, the former 5-star prospect had some growing up he needed to do. Full Story »

...and now you see why moving him to CB was a really, really bad idea.

Anybody who watched Ray Ray in practice - even his freshman year - could have told you: there were plenty of practices where he took the field over and was the best WR on the field, by a lot.

He's not a burner like, say, Deon Cain, but he's got "sneaky" speed and he's a good enough route-runner that if he gets a step he can get behind you, and he's very, very hard to get on the ground in the open field. He's also got a super-high football IQ, will remind you in a lot of ways of a Dylan McCaffrey - whether it's as a returner, a RB, a motion-man, a slot WR, or a flanker, you just want to get the ball in his hands because he's so instinctive he knows exactly what to do with it, almost always. "Instinctive" may be the wrong word, though; much like Hunter Renfrow, you can tell his dad was a football guy; he plays like the son of a coach, just has every skillset in the toolbox.

Definitely looks like the next great one at Wide Receiver U, for sure.

Hey needs to hang onto the ball a little better, he tends to be a little fumble prone!

Oh really?!!

Sep 24, 2016, 4:29 PM

I don't see that.

Best Is The Standard

I guess bc GT had him covered like with an oversized blanket to take his skill out of the game. With our receivers it is a pick your poison position for us. Blanket cover one or two receivers, and we have two or three more to burn them with!!! A very good problem to have!!!

Glad to see Ray Ray doing so well. He put his mistake behind him on dropping the ball short of the end zone and is having great success receiving and returns. I agree he will probably be the next great coming out of Wide Receiver U !! As far as Mike Williams, he is being double covered most of the time. It will happen to Ray Ray sooner or later, Mike will be back in single
coverage. GO TIGERS!!!

I haven't seen anything official, but can someone

Sep 25, 2016, 12:50 AM

reassure me that Ray Ray is physically ok? He got hurt in the tech game towards the end and didn't play very much after the injury and when he did come back in, looked like he was limping around a bit. Seriously, not trying to stir up anything but seemed liked a knee or hammy. Anyone?

Looked like he was cramping

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

He's looked great when he can hold onto the ball

Sep 25, 2016, 3:02 AM

I don't know if it's just a strength thing or a lack of discipline but he definitely needs to take better care of the football when he's got it. Not sure on the stats but it seems like he's fumbled a ball every game this year.
