Observation from last night: A Rudderless Team Crashing into the Rocks

I watched the second half with no volume, so I was attentive to non-verbal indicators.

The team was totally lost the last 15 minutes of the second half (much like last 6-8 minutes of the 1st half). Player after player tried to step up and lead but didn’t have the individual basketball skills nor team leadership capability to enhance the play of teammates. Frustration set in, play was reduced to futile one on one efforts. Players’ efforts were in all likelihood well intended but ineffective. The sports term “choking” applies _ enhanced by coaching, or more accurately “the lack of coaching “.

This brings us to today’s favorite topic CBB. Not only was he frustrated and exasperated, he was clueless from a coaching standpoint. His demeanor indicated he didn’t know what to do to reverse the momentum of the game nor alter the play of his team. CBB demeanor was like WT F is happening? Players sensed it. Lineups, offensive sets and defensive sets took on a random approach.

My conclusion is that CBB was “lost” in the most important game of the season to date. The players couldn’t step up for a variety of reasons. The game was lost in a very ugly manner to a very weak opponent. The outcome says everything needed about evaluating and retaining CBB. This historical pattern of really bad losses and overall less than remarkable historical record show that the Clemson basketball ship has hit the rocks and sinking. It’s #### difficult to watch.

The AD needs to get a new captain of the MBB ship. Yeah, it will be a difficult task to pull the ship off the rocks but it’s past time to get started.

We do seem to have a knack for allowing inferior teams to play their best game of the season against us.

There is a lack of toughness from this team and it shows when we miss shots and have to play defense.
rebounding?

Yes I didn’t get into the performance details but agree that…

… rebounding, defense, turnovers top the list. Last night missing easy shots in the lane and free throws added to the tsunami of errant 3-point shots.

For a team to get offensive rebounds, all five players can't take off down court as soon as the ball leaves the shooter's hand. That's coaching ...... or lack of it.

I predicted before the UNC game that Bacot would have more individual offensive rebounds than our entire team. I did not bother to check the stats, but betting it was true. There is just a total lack of leadership on this team ....... regardless whether we win all the rest or lose them.
