Offensive linemen stay in for an entire drive but defensive linemen have to substitute in and out ?

Cohesion is too important on Oline

I would think the Dline uses more energy, running etc on average than oline. Don’t see many right tackles sprinting after the ball unless a turnover

Sometimes substitutions are made based on down and distance, and short yardage situations that might favor a power run, vs pass play, etc. Different personnel are better suited for some situations. Also to keep fresh players in the game.

the answer is it takes a lot more energy to chase than to block. Not to mention if the play is sweep right the left side can dummy block but the defenders all have to give max energy as they do not know the play.

Also just speculation here, but I'd think there is value to constantly having fresh legs in the face of an offensive lineman who has been run and pass blocking for 10 straight plays.
