Excellent bourbon. When it was cheap it was an awesome buy. Now at current rates it’s overpriced, but that makes that a valuable bottle. It’s a very good bourbon

You will enjoy. Don’t mix it unless with water.

A very good bourbon. Same mash bill as the Pappy Van Winkle bourbons (which sell in the $1000's in the secondary market) and made at the same distillery. Often referred to as "poor man's Pappy Van Winkle". IMHO the Weller wheated bourbons are much smoother than the typical bourbons what have 10% or more rye. It is extremely hard to find and you pretty much have to have connections to get a bottle.

Let us know what you think after sipping - it would be a sin to use this for a mixed drink.

Try Knob Creek Single Barrel Reserve. 120 proof but smooth with a splash of water. I’m lucky enough to have found a 14 year batch but the SBR is very good. Another that comes from the Pappy line is Elmer T Lee, but is hard to find.

This didn’t come from the ABC store in trailersville because I’m in there often (to often) .

Occasionally they will get a few bottles of Blantons but I’ve never found this one there. It’s a good place to buy Buffalo Trace if you like that. It’s hard to find but they had nine bottles last week. I bought six!

Let us know your opinion of this one.

Then who's buying it all in Atlanta? Usually my trips tot he liquor store involve pointing at the empty shelf and asking "Is this where the Buffalo Trace would be?

Was in Houston and south Texas earlier this summer,

and most of my family there drinks Weller's.

Not too expensive there but is here in the Columbia area. By the way, they drink it straight up with no mixers. And, yes, you'll be happy.

you can also use whiskey rocks(soapstone).put 'em in the freezer, and you still drink without diluting (neat) and chill at the same time.got mine on ebay-not expensive.best to master the fine art of sipping slowly in a snifter to fully enjoy the flavor and aroma.only way to go.

PS.you can also use a tulip shaped glass as well(the glencairn glass-not cheap)specifically designed for sipping and sniffing.

Not a classy sipper...jes' a sipper! Plus, my palate isn't that sophisticated...and I'm not reducing my sippin' pleasure to a chemistry lab! ;)

To each his own...but, any bourbon/scotch aficionado is fine by me!

Put the bottle in the freezer and drink it straight up...no water or ice.
The water seems to make it have a pretty good bite, but straight up with no water and it's smooth.

...
I'm not sure I've ever been upset with free bourbon, especially not of that quality.

My son was told by a distiller that it the same bourbon as Pappy Van Winkle, but Pappy is determined by I think when the barrels are tasted and that the finest barrels go into Pappy bottles and the others into a Weller bottle ..... so basically the same as Pappy.

I have also heard that the Kirkland Small Batch from Costco is excellent. It is still pretty expensive ..... $30 for a small bottle (by Costco standards .... maybe a quart +-) but well worth it.

TL it is true that Weller 12 year is the same basic bourbon as the Pappys. The Pappy series comes in 15,20 and 23 years. There is a tasting to determine which barrels are to be aged and sold as Pappys.

Southern bourbon drinking gentlemen Tigers will join me in Louisville this fall for a great football win and a tour of the Van Winkle Distillary in Frankfort. Combine that with a day at the tracks and it will be an awesome weekend. Don’t be content to watch this game on the new network. A big Tiger showing in Kentucky is very important to the team.
