I think that Brownell is saying that as poorly as they have played defensively, they will have to rely on offense to win.

The only way I could see that happening is for Clemson to be allowed to play 6 on 5 ,or reward The Tigers 3 points to 2 points or 4 points to 3 points for a made basket.
And even then I don't know if that would help.
