Oh yeah, being in the 75th ranked TV market puts them up there with the best. That makes this list a joke no matter where the others are ranked.

This entire basis for this ranking is sports revenue.

South Carolina siphons value from Alabama/LSU/Georgia/Florida.

Clemson donates value to the bottom feeders of the ACC.

Our true media rights value is in excess of $100 million/year.

South Carolina’s true media value would be < 25% of that.

It's purely because they are in the SEC and get TV money

Jul 5, 2022, 2:38 PM [ in reply to Re: 25 most valuable college FB teams per Forbes ]

simple as that.

It's also why their football facilities are ranked in the top 5 nationally. SEC TV money paid for it.

This is why Ole Miss is ranked #24 and Arkansas is #17.

That's a result of the SEC revenue split.

Note that none of teams listed except Bama has done better than Clemson over the last 10 years.

The chart is misleading. It's not truly "most valuable programs" as far as what they add to a conference. In order to look at that you'd need to take out all the (uneven) TV revenue sharing to show a team's true value to the market and their conference. It would make sense to show cumulative TV ratings as well. I have no doubt whatsoever that advertisers are more prone to show ads during a Clemson game than they would a coot game. Further, do you think more eyes are on TVs when someone like Ol Miss plays, or when Clemson plays? The TV viewership is not accounted for here in regards to expansion. In addition, out of Ole Miss, UofSC, and Clemson, who's more likely to make prestigious bowls and playoffs, hence bringing more into any conference?

The list is overly weighted with conference revenue. That in and of itself doesn't make a team like USuC more valuable to a conference. From that standpoint, UofSC is a leech of the conference money.

I'd love to see what metrics they used for this one. My guess is something to do with size of alumni base and athletics donations. No way 20 of those schools have more brand recognition than Clemson.

OK, based on "revenue" and "profit". So inherently larger enrollment schools will always be near the top - especially in B1G in SEC as their share of conference revenue will push it higher.

Obviously Forbes has a different definition of valuable than me when it comes to college football.

Lol ... this is Clemson ranking diminished by ACC affiliation .. that said, it makes the case why Clemson needs to go SEC or B1G. ACC lessens Clemson.

This list is 100% nonsense.

No reason for Ole Miss, Arkansas, South Carolina in Nebraska to be ranked that high.

Clemson is certainly higher than 25th.

We’ve had numerous times in recent years we’re Clemson football games have been in the top three TV ratings for regular season games all year.

In addition we’ve had rockstar TV ratings in the college football playoffs. I hope that counts also.
