Can the Cole Haters throw support at him for the big game?

Sep 16, 2014, 9:36 AM

We need everyone in the Tiger nation supporting all of our starters...Especially Cole going into Tally. This kid hears the sh!t bantered around and he needs to know we have his back even if some of you have doubts as to who should start.

We are better than that. That is one of the reason we recruit so well. The players that come here see our support.

If Cole fails, there will be a time to seek a change. Not the time.

Sort of what I was thinking

Sep 16, 2014, 9:42 AM

Biggest game of the year and we have our own fans downing the guy that has been named the starting QB.

Just support the guy and rely on the fact that if he struggles we have a player that can come in and try to win the game.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Make it idjit proof and someone will make a better idjit.

Nobody's going to actively root against a Clemson player

Sep 16, 2014, 9:43 AM

If you think that then you're insane.

I hope Cole throws for 1,000 yards on FSU and we beat them 97-3 and Cole wins the Heisman.

Realistically though, I still think Watson is our better QB and we'd stand a better chance of winning with him. Just like I think Artavis Scott should be starting in the slot, CJ Davidson and Wayne Gallman should be ahead of DJ Howard on the RB depth chart, and Guillermo should start over Norton at Center.

I agree with all the "DW brings a different element" stuff..

Sep 16, 2014, 9:45 AM

but how can you say a true freshmen gives us a better chance to win, on the road in Tally, against the #1 team in the nation?

His downfield passes are more accurate and he's a more elusive player, which helps to somewhat mitigate our very weak offensive line.

Not sure what you're laughing at York. He just provided

statistical proof to answer your question.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

stats are skewed by number of attempts, competition, etc...

Sep 16, 2014, 10:35 AM

look... I'm not saying CS is a better QB than DW. I'm just saying you can't pick and choose your stats to support your opinion...

just b/c it goes against the guys making the decisions

Re: i know they are totals... meaning just pulling those stats

Sep 16, 2014, 11:10 AM

So you're asking for evidence that's not going to exist until Watson has played as many snaps as Cole? That's kind of a self-defeating exercise considering Cole has been getting the majority of the snaps and Watson won't be getting MORE snaps than Cole until this debate is decided.

My head is spinning a bit at the circular nature of your argument.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: i know they are totals... meaning just pulling those stats

Sep 16, 2014, 11:45 AM

Seriously lol

It's this simple, do you want your QB who can't scramble and take shots down the field, or do you want your QB who can scramble and drop dimes down the field?

You tell me.

I'll be in tally row 1 cheering on CS. But I still hope Watson goes in 2nd or 3rd series and drives the bus for the remainder of the game.

Re: i know they are totals... meaning just pulling those stats

Sep 16, 2014, 12:56 PM [ in reply to i know they are totals... meaning just pulling those stats ]

75% of Cole's completions against UGA went for less than, or equal to 10 yards.

100% of DW's completions against UGA were for more than 10 yards.

hth

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

What stats did he pick and choose?

Sep 16, 2014, 10:38 AM [ in reply to stats are skewed by number of attempts, competition, etc... ]

It's not as if he took DW's numbers vs. SCSU and compared them to CS's numbers vs. UGA.

He gave the same stats for both players based on what we've seen so far this year (both played against UGA and SCSU).

If you can explain to me how he skewed those stats, I'd appreciate it.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

they are skewed b/c of amount of time played vs. UGA

Sep 16, 2014, 10:42 AM

you can't take total stats and compare them, when the majority of DW's came against SCST, not UGA

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

"I've been working since I was 15 continually until now. I worked 40 hours a week at 15, when it wasn't even legal for 15 year olds to work that many hours."

I understand that. I still think some weight needs to be

Sep 16, 2014, 10:47 AM

placed on the fact that the staff is requiring Cole to throw many passes behind the line of scrimmage while they're letting Watson uncork it downfield. To me, that says that DW can make all the throws and CS can't. It also says the staff trusts DW to make these throws.

I'm all for playing the QB who gives us the best chance to win. But after what we've seen on the field, can we honestly say without a shadow of a doubt that it's CS?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I get it.... but I guess I choose to believe that this staff

Sep 16, 2014, 10:52 AM

would not sit DW if they "knew he could make all the throws and Cole couldn't".

IDK... anyway, I hope DW shreds FSU Saturday.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

"I've been working since I was 15 continually until now. I worked 40 hours a week at 15, when it wasn't even legal for 15 year olds to work that many hours."

I hope whoever we play at QB shreds FSU's defense.

Sep 16, 2014, 10:57 AM

I think one of the main reasons people want to see DW at QB is because our OL isn't very good and his ability to scramble and keep plays alive and make something out of nothing is much greater than Cole Stoudt's.

I mean, I'm no expert by any stretch of the imagination, but what would your rationale be behind all the throws behind the LOS for CS and the lack thereof for DW?

Just my honest opinion.

I don't know if you have kids but I do...

Let's say you are trying to feed them a dish like Broccoli...A good dish but an acquired taste..

Let's say the child wants no part of it and wants Chicken Nuggets....

Do you throw you support a broccoli and tell the child how good it is or do you say chicken nuggets are better and broccoli is not as good?

I mean I love Chicken Nuggets...but broccoli is better for you...........

the sad truth is this...

Sep 16, 2014, 9:44 AM

I don't see anyone advocating that Cole is the more gifted QB. I don't see anyone saying DW is clearly not capable of winning games.

I do see people choosing to trust the staff on this issue, even if it's not what "they" would do.

I do see people throwing Chad/Dabo, and even Cole, under the bus b/c they think DW should be given the ball now based on his one series against UGA.

These same people will likely be waiting for CS to make a mistake against a very good FSU team, and they will pounce.

"I've been working since I was 15 continually until now. I worked 40 hours a week at 15, when it wasn't even legal for 15 year olds to work that many hours."

I would hope that NO Tiger fan is waiting for CS to make a

mistake. If so, then they aren't real Tiger fans.

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

There are no Cole Haters who wear Clemson Orange on Saturday

Sep 16, 2014, 9:56 AM

There are, however, numerous Clemson fans who strongly believe against all evidence to the contrary that

1) they are better coaches and evaluators of talent than the people who have devoted their lives to coaching the game and whose livelihood depends on the successful execution of their team.

2) they want to win more than the coaches whose livelihood depends on the successful execution of their team.

3) they understand all the dynamics of the quarterback situation at Clemson (understanding of the playbook, gametime decision making, response to adversity, locker room climate, long-term recruiting impact, long-term DW development impact, long term health of a freshman who broke his collar bone five months ago, performance of both quarterbacks over the entire spring and fall practice period, etc) better than the coaches who have lived with these players for months and some times years.

These aren't the people who come on Tigernet to discuss who they think should be the starter. That's just a discussion among fans. These are the people who can't get over how "stupid" these coaches are for not seeing what is so completely obvious to the fan.

We already lost to the coots last week, so they've given up.
